need shade on deck

well 2 years ago we used a canvas gazebo, but it died immediately..too much weather here.

so I spent a lot of time trying to run down some turned colonial treated 8' posts..talk about a pain, they just aren't making them any more

well online I found 4 at Lowes in Traverse City so I ordered them, some 2x4s and some lattice..and they were all suppposed to be delivered yesterday, and the truck came but had plain 4x4 posts rather than my $25 each colonial turned treated posts I had ordered (sheesh) ..so they won't come now until Friday. It was a balmy 74 degrees when they came and I had my paint, tools and all out and was ready to build..but nope..didn't happen.

Friday I have a busy day, taking my mom to dr, etc..so I'll have to have someone else here to watch for the delivery of my 4 posts..to verify they have the RIGHT ONES this time !!!!!

I'm very much looking forward to having the shade gazebo built..as at 74 it was already unbearable on that porch, there is already a large woodbine vine that hubby and I unfurled from railings and laid on the ground to be put over the gazebo..about 30' long??

Have all the railings down and awaiting the new build..the entire mess could use a new coat of white paint anyway..I'll have to remember to take some pictures when i get it done..I also ordered a new grapevine and I'm thinking of putting this up and over the new build as well..we'll see.

My Son built a Pergola on my deck for me--used 6x6's. over the framework on top, He used vinyl lattice work, then in Spring, we put a shadecloth over it--then take it off in the Fall. Last year, we installed a mister for the hottest days. It's 25 degrees cooler under it in the summertime. It's 12' tall--has to be to clear house roof.

I LOVE how great shadecloth works! Even stretched between two open car doors it will keep you cooler than the temps in the sun!

still waiting on my posts to be delivered this Friday. This is a few steps from my laundry room door so I'm thinking of attaching some sort of clothes line to it also, either permanent or retractable..

attempted to build the gazebo on Sunday ..however..it got really windy and was threatening to storm so we piled it on the deck in pieces and tarped it.

extremely windy again today and forcast for the entire week is rain..guess maybe next weekend or following week.
