Screened porch into cooking porch

Well since we have hooked the pipes up to the wood cook stove I have been cooking on it daily. I have cooked supper on it for a week straight now. But with the stove being located on the screened in, leaky, back porch I am worried about being able to cook on it in bad weather. So we have started a temporary enclosure by putting up plastic and patching the roof. We have left some of the screens open to allow for air flow though. Later we are going to use those clear plastic panels that look like sheets of tin to make a shutter type enclosure that we can open and close as needed. Here are a few pics of the temporary fix for now. I have turned 2 fish aquarium stands into work surfaces and wood storage. I covered the stands in plastic table clothes to help keep the wood dry.

I could understand wanting a cook stove outside the house in the summer but would want the stove in the house in the winter.

I know families that cook in summer on a Coleman cook stove or other kerosene stove. They cook, hot water and heat the house in winter using a wood burning cook stove.

Have also seen a stove on metal dolly that got moved outside in summer and used inside in winter.

The reason why the stove is not inside this winter?

The last home I helped build was just before thanksgiving last year. We started putting in the stove in as we were putting on the upper story and roof . The work crew that day was over 30 men/boys. It was a nice day but still very cold. Hooked up a chimney the next morning so we could heat the place to work while putting in insulation and starting on the downstairs dry wall.

With freezing temperatures while doing the mudding and painting without the stove nothing would dry just freeze. Also what would you cook your food on if you waited to hook the stove up.

Unhappy

This is not our house, we work on a poultry farm and the house belongs to the owner. It is not set up for a wood stove. I would LOVE to be able to have it in the house but that is not an option.

I hear ya, GaMntHomestead. I'd love to have a wood cook stove, but there is no place to put it inside my house. I have a wood heat stove with a flat top that I can do some cooking on, but it's not the same as a cookstove. I've often thought about adding a glass sunroom addition on the south side of the house and adding a wood cookstove out there.

I think you've done a good job of making the best of your situation.

THat is great. We dont have a screened porch, but have plans to build one on hopefully in the Spring. And we were looking at wood burning cook stoves on craigslist a few days ago to see what was out there and how much.

Yours looks really good

I like your set up! We have that exact stove in our basement, the previous owner tried to give it away before he sold but no one wanted it...so we got it. I haven't cooked on it yet, but it sure warms up the basement, and if we're ever without power for an extended period we should be good to go
