With all the unhappy news, a little joy...

My MUm and I have been looking for a place for us to purchase back home(Canada) and last week we submitted an offer and it was accepted!

20 acres with a lot she can build on , outbuildings and a double house(sounds weird but it is 2 houses attached!) The best part is a branch of the river runs thru the back of the property.

I am returning to supervise the home inspection and if all goes well we will close on May 15!

I feel such a relief from the stress this is the third place we put an offer on and it is the best of them all! Now to get cracking on packing and sorting!

................Your timing is excellent ! Maybe you'll have enough time to get all necessary maintenance items attended to before the snow flies . , fordy

Congratulations! All of the planning that you've done over the years will now come to life... Once you move in, what will your first "homesteading" step be?

Good work. May you always remember how you hungered for it. It will sustain you when you think that you have get everything done in a week, all at the same time.

As soon as you can, make the cuttings of the giant redwoods so that they can begin making roots as soon as possible. You will then be able to make redwood mulch for your beds and other landscaping. Don't get discouraged. It takes a little time.

I figure on tracking the sun patterns before I plow up a garden area. There are a few outbuildings that need to be taken down but I will repurpose th wood for a chicken coop and shelter for rabbits and get a start on those. The barn needs to be cleared of old hay and muck(it as left in the muck channels from the previous owner before this one) so it wil be a little at a time. Come fall we will plant an orchard once we know what kind of widlife we are dealing with(whether it needs to be closer ot the house or we can plant it on the other side fo the river. The good thing is th ehouse is in good shape so it will just be redecorating it(right now the whole house is off white) Eventually we will find out what is under the carpets.

In the victorian house(the original) they have put down laminate on th eground floor and a pretty new kitchen so all we have to do on that side fo the house is install a second banister up the stairs so my mum has a handrail on either side for supportshe is building a one floor home and 100% handicap accessible as she might end up in a wheel chair and my SIL is disabled)

We don't even have to put up a fence for the dogs as there is one off the back porch we just have to make sure noone jumps it!

yeah the insurance agent yesterday said it wasn't to their standard... so we will either have to replace it or try to switch over to propane as we were going to a little bit sooner
