Fabric softener sheets P U!

BG: I only use a half a sheet per load only to remove the static electricity and only in Winter because of the dry air. When I get a new box, I open it and put it in the garage because it stinks of scent so bad, it makes me nauseous.

Yesterday, I bought a new box and put it out there so that, by next Winter, the smell will be gone.

LOL LOL! One of the outside cats that sleep in the garage dragged it out of the garage! I guess it couldn't stand the smell either!

Have you tried liquid fabric softener? The smell is less intense.

I can't stand how the clothes feel slimy from dryer sheets. Don't use them.

To reduce the static in the dryer you can supposedly roll up a ball of aluminum foil and throw it in with your clothes. I haven't tried it yet so I can't say for sure that it works.

I made a small crocheted flower that I put some safety pins and it gets rid of most of the static in the dryer. You could put the pins on the clothes, but I didn't want to keep putting little holes in my clothes. As an alternative you could put the pins on a washcloth and throw it in there, I just wanted something pretty.

You may be getting nausous because you are sensitive to the toxic chemicals that they put in those things. The fragrance industry is self regulated and there are chemicals coming out or our dryer vents that are not allowed to come out of car exhausts or smoke stacks. One study at the University of Washington found that the leading laundry detergent and the leading fabric softener gave off "...more than 25 volatile organic compounds, including seven hazardous air pollutants, coming out of the vents. Of those, two chemicals -- acetaldehyde and benzene -- are classified by the Environmental Protection Agency as carcinogens..." (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0824091537.htm)
I use baking soda in my wash and nothing as a fabric softener for most loads, but I will sometimes add vinegar as a deodorizer. I have found that if I don't over dry the clothes they don't get static. I have heard that if you fill a spray bottle with water, you can give a light misting to static prone clothes and they will release. Just a thought for you. Your body may be telling you that you are poisoning yourself with that product.
God bless you and yours

I've tried to rolled-into-a-ball aluminum foils thing and it didn't stop the static.

Liquid fabric softener seems to coat the dryer filter, but I do use vinegar in all loads.

I just hope that the stink will be gone by next Winter from the new box. DH retrieved it from outside the garage and put it on a rafter. Maybe it will repel the raccoon from visiting the garage from time to time!

I had to laugh at the cat dragging it out of her "bedroom". She had better taste than some people!

I only allow unscented in the house - baby wipes, cleaning products, laundry products, soap, shampoo. I can tolerate the spray bottles but not the spray cans. Any type of ionized air is horrible for me. I could probably be hairsprayed to death.

I put an old tennis shoe in the dryer with the load if I just want a quick fluff on it. The shoe is clean, beats everything up and no smell.

I love Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day products! DH is not a fan of basil but I bet it smells wonderful. My current favorite is lemon verbena but geranium is excellent too.

I noticed a radish scent on the website has anyone tried it?

I use three tennis balls to fluff and "beat" the dog hair off everything.

I agree!!
DS got a box of hand-me-downs rfom DH's sister.
Oh gag!!
The whole house smells like someone else's fabric softener.
I threw everything in the washer...

and static fades. Stench does not.
Plus, that stuff is bad for your clothes.. it coats them with stuff.
Makes them get dirtier.

I almost never use fabric softener to begin with. The static goes away pretty quickly here, with our high humidity levels. If it's got static when I put it in the closet, the next day it's fine

I do use some liquid fabric softener in some of DS's clothing and in our bedding - it's got a mild lavender scent that is very subtle when it comes out of the dryer.

Dryer sheets are NASTY

An interesting thing has happened to both DH and I when it comes to air deodorants.

I read in HT about using vinegar as an air deodorant. Hmmm! I keep various small decorative containers from Goodwill filled with plain vinegar. (Out of the reach and where they won't get knocked down.) Two in the kitchen and others scattered about the house. I also use vinegar as a spray air deodorant and we're amazed. It removes smells, even bathroom smells. Of course,we just mist, but it works! (No, the house doesn't smell of vinegar.DH says, when he walks in, it smells neutral.)

BUT, the interesting thing is that scents seem so much stronger to us now. Cosmetics, detergents, even vanilla when I bake, seems strong smelling!

I didn't care for bluebell either. I'll have to put in an order and try rosemary, rhubarb and radish.

We don't have much humidity here for most of the year and things get pretty staticky unless we use fabric softener or dryer sheet. I dont notice clothes getting dirty faster or much of a residue at all.

I feel kind of bad about admitting it here, but I actually rather like the scent of Bounce. And Tide detergent as well.
