I don't know that there are any free dentists, but if you live near a university that has a dental school, you can sometimes get treatment there for free or very low cost. Depending on your income, if you qualify and are on a program for medical/dental, you can get it that way. Every area is different. Good luck!

If you are close to a dentist college and can qualify for Medicaid then it is very low cost to have dental work done. I had 3 teeth pulled in preparation for getting a partial plate, and I was sent to that dentist school to have the work done.
And having 3 teeth pulled was like 8 Bucks co-pay out of pocket, so that was nearly getting it free.

Dental schools are a good source of high quality, reasonably priced dental care.
In addition, you can get basic cleaning, radiographs and sometimes sealants (for kids) done for VERY little at dental hygiene schools (they aren't always associated with dental schools so do a different search online for those). Again, all work is checked and double checked by instructors to insure quality care.

There is a free dental clinic here twice a year, you might call your local public health dept to see if there's one that comes to your area. I believe they ask for a donation if you can pay....but if you can't it's free. Public health also may know about local dentists that give low cost care.

That depends on the state. IL no longer pays for adult dental work.
Our junior college trains dental hygienists. You usually need to sign up for appointments at the beginning of the semester but they do an exceptionally good job for little money. They want to send your Xrays to your own dentist. The visits take forever because the students are just learning and the supervisory dentist checks all their work.

Well. he doesn't have much money, and he says his teeth are rotting away. I think he'll need to cultivate patience.

I know it takes some searching around for a dentist that will take Medicaid folks. But in WI there are a few. Most just do young children, but a few, very few do take adults. So a person really has to search and call around for the few that might take in new Medicaid adults patients.
And those dentists then send their patients to the dental schools IF extensive dental care is needed like extractions etc. But the dentist himself takes the x-rays and if needed sends those pictures and makes the appointment needed at the dental school, sure there is a waiting period, but gee, one can not be fussy when getting something like that for nearly no cost at all.

You might have to call a bunch, I know I did, until luck would have it, a little town just 8 miles from me does. I had a friend ask when they had a appointment and sure enough they do, so I found one that close, and then that dental school of which I was sent was only 20 miles away so I really lucked out. As I thought I would have to go to Marshfield which is 80 miles away.
Good luck with your hunt to find one.
