Do you have a Polaris Ranger, mule or other UTV?
We are looking at Rangers and other UTV's. We want the side by side and a dump box. We live in the mountains and have 4 seasons so everything is 4 wheel drive. Do we want 4 or 6 wheels? What add ons do you use? Anything to stay away from?

When we bought our ranch, we also bought a Yamaha Big Beat ATV. We got a snow plow attachment for it. It works fine for smaller amounts of snow. But then a couple of years ago we got a Kawasaki Mule. I like it better. I think ours is a 3010 model. It is diesel, snd powerful. It has a back seat for when we want o haul other people, but it folds up and allows the pickup bed together bigger.
I wish we had the money to get an enclosure for it! Some day!

My parents have a Kawasaki Mule, bare bone basic. Wonderful machine. We got to enjoy it this past summer. The mule fully loaded can really handle rough muddy terrain no problems.
My aunt has a fully loaded Mule and they used to it plow the lake effect snow in Ohio. They love that thing.
Now we want LOL

At work I've had the pleasure of operating a Kawasaki Mule, John Deere Gator and a Kubota utv. Having operated all under some austere conditions, I am looking for an old Jeep CJ for the homestead....Of those I listed, the Mule seemed to be the one that performed the best overall if you are after a UTV.

We have a John Deere Gator with hydraulic lift for dumping manure out of the bed. Love that thing. Picking up tracks for it for next winter.

We have Kubota RTV. We are a Kubota dealership so it makes that decision very easy for us. Love the Kubota

Rural King sells a knock off version called the Chuckwagon for about a third of the price of the others.

We bought a Ranger off Craigslist last year, new ones were way too expensive. We live on the side of a mountain so it's made getting to most of our property possible....we've owned this land since 2005 and I hadn't even seen some of it til we got the Ranger.
Ours is a 2006 2 seater with 4 wheels, has an electric dump bed, winch, snow blade and an inverter so we can use electric tools away from the house. Not enough snow to try the blade yet....but otherwise it sure is handy!

we have the kubota 500 and its been great. it has 4 wheel drive of course but it also has 4 wheel differential lock and we have crossed swamps with it and not got stuck. if you watch the sales you can get a good deal, kubota has 0 down and 0 percent financing sometimes, that's what we got and it was brand new but had been sitting on the dealers lot for almost 2 years and they discounted it, kubota was having a BBQ giveaway if you bought a vehicle so we ended up with a new grill on top of everything else.

We have the polaris ranger 2006 model. We bought it new after nearly killing ourselves on a 4 wheeler going up a steep hill (I know, should have known better). I did a lot of research and it out performed all the competition in testing. I love the speed, the 6 wheel drive, and the power. We use it every single day and she's still going strong. We have the dump bed but wish now we had one a little bigger with a back seat too. Seems guests love to take it for a spin over the ranch and we have the back full of folks standing up holding on to the roll bar. That's my favorite way to ride!

We have a basic 4WD mule. It just goes and goes and keeps on going. Hands down, it is the most used tool on this farm. It is used daily. The only thing I would add is a hydraulic dump. Without it, removal of most stuff requires some manual shoveling to get it to,the point of manual dumping. In our climate, we don't need the enclosure. On those extreme cold days, I just use my pickup. That probably happened 10 times this winter.

Thanks everyone. It's good to know everyone likes them. I do think we will get lots of use out of one, if DH can only decide which kind.

I have a 2012 Polaris ranger 800 XP. I love it. I use it for everything. It will go anywhere and still do 55 MPH on the roads. I haul firewood and tools go to the grocery store. I don’t know how I got along without it all these years. I use it every day. I suggest you get a glass windshield with a windshield wiper, and a back window and roof. With the price of gas it uses about 10 gallons a month. Dealer Is right down the road about 3 miles away.

From a mechanics perpsective:
Kawasaki Diesel Mule 4wd- you just cant beat them. follow the maintenance schedule and it will last forever.
Polaris Rangers- solid, dependable. They get better every year.
Kubota- I sometimes think Mules had orange kids.
Hands down I would own one of the three in a heart beat. Parts and accessories are easily available. But truth be told I will always favor a Mule over any other. Ive serviced hundreds of UTV's, yet Mules seem to always have the least amount of problems. Just my 2¢.

We have 2 JD Gators at work, 1 6 wheel, 1 4 wheel. If you haul big loads get the 6 wheel, if not stay with the 4. On Gators at least, the 6 wheel does not turn sharp near as well. The 6 wheel rides smoother though. Each has there own good points but I like the 4 wheel better. The 6 wheel was bought to clean the water filters and the sand IS heavy so it works well for that....James
