Selling a property in South America question

Didn't really know where to post this, but here it goes.
My wife is from Ecuador and is one of 6 children. Her Father passed away recently and has left a small property/farm to all of the 6 children. All of the siblings agree that the farm should be sold and the proceeds split equally betwen them.

Some of the siblings live outside of Ecuador and apparantly Ecuadorian law states that all of the sisters/brothers must submit a signed "document" stating that they agree to sell the property.

Now, here's my question.
Can my wife type up the document then go to a bank and sign it in front of the notary public, and then of course, have it notarized.

According to her family, the completed document can then just be faxed to her niece in Ecuador.

It sounds too simple to me.

Does anybody have any input on this ? Maybe a template to use to get the verbage correct.

I would guess that she must first get it notarized then take it to the Ecuadorian embassy to have their government stamps put onto it to legalize it in Ecuador.

Not that I know anything about Ecuador, but that's what several other South American countries require. You might contact their embassy and ask them.

It's because once the documents arrive in South America, the functionary there will not know if all sorts of documents from all around the world are in their legal form. In theory, the embassy in the USA can look at a document in the USA and tell whether it is legit. They put their stamp on it to let the folks in Ecuador know that it is properly done.

I suspect that you will also have to do a copy that has been translated into Spanish.

Good advice.
There is an Ecuadorean consulate somewhat close by in Chicago. I will have my wife call them.
