cabin Fever

I have a 2000 gallon septic tank
in very well drained gravel and sand
there are 6 leads off of it for drainage

Normal use in the winter is just laundry, bathing, dishwashing and minor use of the toliet. (handy cap bucket comode is used by husband in the winter to avoid icy stairs to the bathroom --since it has to be cleanned daily we all use it)

Intruction undernormal use requires pumping every 3 years --system built for much larger home (really house and cabin both included in the design of the system by DEC) ---So, this is a solid system.

Now a few days ago we got flooded. When we got the water level do to 250 AND 300 gallons I added enough lysol consutraite to make 300 gallons of mix. the last few inches of water was pumped in to the tank. the bulk of the water (plain) was pumped in to the field.

What if any impact could the sewage system face--Things happened fast and mom always did this know I wonder.

Till I owned the system the whole waste stuff was I do not see it when it leaves and it just disappears --Now I know to ask and learn.

I knew not to pump much in it. I am ready to know.

I am trying to understand your scenario. What got flooded? Your house due to a waterline break? Your drainfield was flooded? Was ithe flooding from sewage backing up into the house from floor drains?

I am not sure if this answers your question, but a septic system built for two homes, having a 2000 gal tank, and six leachlines, was probably designed to except a maximum of 600 to 750 gallons per day. That maximum is not for every day of the year, but for short periods of time - like over a weekend or so.

How many gallons of Lysol did you use to mix with the water?

I see where Alaska is having flooding problems again ----- very odd temps for Jan in Alaska.
Saw a photo where they are ice skating in the streets, thanks to the flooding.
Reminded me of old photos of Amsterdam.

Hope you can keep your septic system in good working order.

It was totally weather related. Heavy rain on permafrost and warm temps. Water poured in. AGAIN It was like Spring break up.

I Normally about maybe 200 gallons max goes to the tank and all the water in the house but for the last of it went via pumt to the fields but the last up to 300 gallons My est. is a tad high only that was treated and only that water went in to the tank. but it was treated with lysol as it was standing water and mom always did it. Sending that volume of treated water to the tank is my question. If I had it together before I would have ask you first.

The 300 gallon volume should not be a problem. The Lysol may temporarily reduce the good bacteria population in your septic tank and drainfield, but they will recover. Besides, in your climate the good bacteria are essentially dormant this time of year anyhow.
