Visited the Cemetery Today

For some reason I have been thinking about the lady who used to live in this house a lot lately. She is the person who was seen in the bedroom window when the house was sitting empty for a couple of years. I'm not really sure why she has been on my mind so much but I decided to do some research in the last few days. Some of you may remember there is a gravestone in my yard and it is the lady's mother. Nobody seemed to know for sure if there was anyone under the stone. Well, I have found out the facts. I don't know if the lady was nudging me to look into things, but something has been. I was under the impression the family lived here for much longer than they did. It turns out the mother never lived in this house and that alone was enough to tell me she wasn't in the yard. Today we went to the graves of the mother, the daughter who is the lady that lived here and a brother of that lady. What happened was sometime before the lady died the original marker for her mother was replaced with a double stone with both their names on it and the single stone was brought here. The brother has his own stone and there is a nice large Rhododendron between them. It's one of the nicer plots there and one of only a few with any bushes. I'm glad we went to look. She died 16 years ago today which made the visit even more special to me. I suppose this may just be one more instance of me being a bit off in the head, but I feel a connection the the lady. I intend to continue my research and see where it leads me.

Perhaps you are distantly related.
Research like that is always fun to me.

I located the mother and two children on Ancestry.com, but that's all that is there. Since I'm not the owner of the tree I don't want to try to add any information I have. I'm not even sure I can. I sent a message to the tree owner and it seems their tree involves the father not the mother, so I don't think they care about the people I'm looking into.

Anything is possible. Their roots and some of mine go back to Ireland. Wouldn't that be something?

>but I feel a connection the the lady

That has happened to me in genealogy. There used to be a book about strange things that happen to researchers because the dead person has info for, or needs closure to something or someone. Not that I particularly believe that, but the person I'm pursuing isn't even an ancestor and I can't get her out of my head to the point that I'm starting to research writing a historical novel based on her life.

That's very interesting. It's driving me crazy that I'm having trouble filling in the blanks in the lady's life. But I will eventually.

My grandfather took Nana to a number of cemeteries across southern PA on their honeymoon in 1938 or 9.

I see a book lurking in there! Do the research. Write her life.

I know the feeling...I bought a book at a library sale...very old, a baby book and began a search...I cried every time I got around that book, even tear up thinking about it..long story short, I did find the person to whom the book belonged...it became a Christmas eve gift for his grandson of a grandmother he never knew...this book had pictures, pieces of hair and satin from dresses, her whole life...what a book...and I became a story for a little while for returning it....it was the right thing to do...I was at peace when the family had this precious piece of family history back in their hands....

The lady may have left something undone in her life and she may possibly be trying to have you figure it out. We have a ghost in our house and it is the first owner that built our house, have no idea why he doesn`t want to go to the other side. He may also have left something undone in his life. > Thanks Marc

From eye witness accounts of a person who spoke regularly to the lady many years ago, she was very nice. I guess that carried over after she died and she would smile and wave at people from my window. I do feel a bit of sadness when I think of her. I think the loss of her mother must have affected her greatly. She was only 24 when her mother died. I say this because of the way she removed her mother's original grave stone and replaced it with a much nicer one with both of their names on it before she died. The lady died when she was 91 and never married. I have a lot of research yet to do. I'd like to find someone in the family if there are any left and see if they would like the grave stone that's in my yard. I would keep it if the person had ever lived here but they didn't.

I wonder, if in 100 years, people will wonder about the black granite tombstone in my yard-after all who know about it is gone. It reads
Ceres
Dear Friend, Just beyond the Moon.
