Home after heart attack

Boy did I get the shocker of my life Monday. Started having chest and jaw pain-just like when I was on chemo. Only this time I went to the hospital and sure enough I had a heart attack! Seems like the breast cancer I was diagnosed with in Feb. was a shock-but this had me totally stunned. I'm 49 and thought I was doing a pretty good job eating healthy-So guess not.

The heart cath showed no blockages although they said my heart enzymes were so high they were sure they'd find at least one. The blood thinners they put me on may have taken care of any blockage over night. Doctors told me they are perplexed and that I was very lucky-I told them it wasn't luck it's the power of prayer.

On the downside they took me straight off my daily coffee-and migraine meds. So off course I've got a head ache-wonder how long that will last.

Glad to hear you are well, I am 38 (just turned in September) and I had a dissection in my left circumflex artery this summer causing a heart attack. I am very fit and healthy, no cholesterol or plaque, but the dissection caused it to block up, so I now have two stents in my heart. Thank God for modern medicine! It seems more and more people are having heart attacks these days, or maybe I am just more aware of it now.
Oh wow, just realized you are in Indiana too!

Praying for a quick recovery for you.

Caffeine headaches usually go away after a few days.Drs took me off caffeine years ago and I had awful headaches for about 3 days, then it was okay.If you're having migraines,I don't know anything about that, but caffeine withdrawal is survivable..rough,but survivable.

When do you see the cardiologist?

I just got home a few weeks ago from a heart attack also. I had pain in my left shoulder that I thought was arthritis. Our family doctor had been telling me that it was indigestion and to take Malox. Now I have to take it easy and have several heart meds to take and a new stent in my heart. I think men doctors are just ignoring women as they think we don;t know when we hurt.

It was probably related to the cancer. Some tumors throw clots, and EPO clots are a very common problem too. And, since you have no blockages, then obviously it was a clot.
Praise God you lived through it. I pray you have little to no damage.

I actually saw the cardiologist Monday night about 11pm. 8:30 the next morning he did the heart cath. I was on heart monitor of course the entire time I was there which was two days. Before I went to the hospital the preceding evening and all night I was sweating profusely. I have been told to stay active-but not like aerobics/running etc...
I am on 5 new meds too-no refills so perhaps these are temporary. I see my doctor next week then the cardiologist in 4 weeks.
Thanks for the well wishes I am sinking fast and need to get the kiddos to bed.

Hope you feel better soon. I know the doctors have told me that the type of chemo I had can weaken the valves of the heart, so I have to be checked for that every year. Not sure if the chemo can actually cause a heart attack, but it might have something to do with it. Hang in there and take it easy.

So glad you are doing okay, sounds like it's been a rough year. Hopefully the coming year will be a lot better!

Praying for you. If you're taking nitroglycerin that may be helping cause headache. My poor husband had an attack at 48--at first he was on nitro all the time & it would give him a terrible headache. He could take one tylenol only for it. He has stayed on most of the medicine he got then--three different blood pressure ones plus a statin & niacin. Was on Plavix for years till about a yr ago.

Hang in there, I know it's a hard time but it will gradually get better!
