U.S. Navy is moving to rail gun technology to use for the catapult on their carriers and moving away from the steam powered cats.

The catapult technology predates the railgun technology. It was first successfully tested this month. Unlike the railgun, it doesn't send "greetings" off at 5,600 mph.

Ok, this is NOT a rail gun. Its simple physics.
