Just Sitting on the Porch..

Sitting here on the front porch listening to the wild turkey calls and the birds and crickets. Kittens playing at my feet. No cars this early on the dirt road ..quiet. Sometimes we get so very busy with life that we don't just stop to listen to the real world. I am so blessed to live in the country...

I feel blessed also.
I love all the wild life also. I had two yearling deer standing and watching me mow, even the sound of the riding mower didn't seem to faze them.

Generally, out here it is very quiet except for nature's sounds.

This past month, though, they were replacing a bridge on a highway near us. This is a very busy highway. We then got this traffic down our township road. It was awful. Couldn't sleep at night. Had to call the sheriff because the semis were not taking the appropriate detour. Semis passing on a narrow township road, even had a wide load go down our road. Finally, no through truck signs were posted. Have deep ruts in the yard from heavy vehicles after it rained hard. We are so thankful that bridge is now done.

The bluebirds were singing this morning, sounded so pretty.

I'm in Missouri and it has been non-stop raining since yesterday. (NO complaints!) I've been making plenty of excuses to just go sit under the porch and listen to the rain. It's been absolutely heavenly!

I do that quite often...sit on the back porch and just drink it all in.

Very claming and peaceful.

I grew up in Toronto for the first 38 years of my life and moved out to the country eight years ago. I should have moved out here many years earlier. Our house backed onto Highway 401, which is one of the busiest highways in North America, the airplanes used the highway as a guide into the runways at the airport, ambulance station south of us, fire station to the north.

My property is severed from an 80 acre farm so I have no immediate neighbors. The peace and quiet here is awesome and sometimes I sit outside in the evening, drink it all in and wonder how I grew up in the noise and mad rush of the big city. I look with wonder at each baby rabbit born and each little chick hatched, watch the sunrises and sunsets, see the sky teeming with stars at night, listen to the coyotes bark and howl in the back field, listen to the cows bawling from up the road, watch the wide variety of birds that patronize my feeders all year round and I can't help but be humbled by the awesome beauty of Nature. Country living is the best!
