What are some of your favorite scriptures?

I am home from church today and thinking on some of my favorite passages.

I would like to hear some of yours.

Phil 4 is one of mine, the whole chapter.

!Th 4:11 also strikes a strong cord with me.

Proverbs 31 is one I strive to achieve.

What are some of yours?

Mathew 7

There is ALOT in there. And no it doesn't have anything to do with the first verse which has to be the most misquoted in the bible.

Romans 1:16

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."

You know PB I never really thought of that one until I began seeing it pop up on signs around town.

Then I reread it and began to ruminate on it.

I like it too.

It would be of interest to me to understand "why" those are your favorite parts of Scripture.

One of mine is John 14:1-3 where Jesus speaks of preparing His followers a home and letting them know he does NOT lie.

Psm 118: 17-19 as this is the promise between me and God that saved my life in 1992; then Isa 62: 10 which is a constant endeavor...

A poem came out of this I will share here.
Thou didst take my feet off roads of death
And turned my heart from sin.
Thou placed all this upon thy Son
That I might live thru Him.
And by Ty grace and with Thy strength
I took a step; then two;
And every footprint I stepped in
Told me that Jesus knew.
This road is hard and oh so long.
I must not step aside;
But keep my eyes fixed on Him...
Christ the crucified.
Sometimes a spear of sin cuts deep
And puts me on my knees;
Yet sin can't win 'cause while I'm there
I cry, "Lord, mercy, please!".
Thou hearest me oh merciful God
And the blessings I have sought.
Thou keepest me and teacheth me
That pain is what sin wrought.
So, oh my omnipotent God of love;
My star that's brighter than day.
Even though it's my knees that get me there,
Count me present, Lord.
I'm on my way!

II Corinthians 5: 7 which keeps my focus on the spiritual part of my life as I live in this world, i.e. I walk by faith; not by sight!

Eccl 12: 13-14 helping me understand a spiritual life is not a complicated life as my whole duty is to "...fear God and keep his commandments..." and that word "fear" is defined as "respect" by me.

II Cor 5:17, Col 3:2, Rom 12:1-2, Rom 8:1, 5, 14; I Peter 1:13-14 & Eze 18:31 all tell me "how a spiritual child of God can live in this earthly domain that is so greatly controlled by the evil one....for "...why will ye die?..." (I wrote a flier about this!)

Pro 18:21 that lets me know "Death and life are in the power of the tongue!". It took me awhile to understand this; but it is a powerful piece of information for our spiritual walk. Add to this James 3:10 "Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing." and it becomes even more obvious. Add Math 12:37 letting us know "...by thy words thou shalt be justified; and by thy words thow shalt be condemned..." and Math 7:21-23; then it all got solidified for me with James 1:26. Continue with Hosea 14:1-2, I Pet 2:5 & Heb 13:15-16 coupled with Pro 15:4 to better understand how our "lips" define us. Add Math 7:16-17, Luke 6:43-45 & Math 12:33-37 with Ephesians chapter 6 and solidify it all with Isa 35:8. (I wrote a flier on this called "The Redeemed Shall Walk There!".)

There is so very much more; and stuck out on this little 6-acre homestead like we are in the physical condition we're in, putting out fliers once a month as we get into town for neccessities is the only way I could figure out to help fellow "spiritual Israelites" (grafted jews) in these last days of earth's existance.

Thanks for starting this thread. It is real comforting to have a thread like this where the spiritual part of our humanity can communicate.

Math 6:9-13, Heb 2:14-15, Col 1:13, Heb 2:14-15 & Col 1:13 all have helped me understand the terible erroneous & harmful act of praying what is known as "The Lord's Prayer" verbatim. And Hosea 4:6 let's me know how powerful understanding Scripture is, i.e. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." (This does not mean some "human being's interpretation of Scripture". It means the Scripture's interpretations of itself is neccessary for 'correct' interpretations.)

Pugnacious, I would be interested in what you find especially important to you in Mathew 7 for that chapter means much to me too...as may be seen in my post.

I was a closet Christian or "lukewarm" for many years and God pointed that fact out to me. I changed years ago and try to proclaim His Word. I do not want Him to consider me as "lukewarm". You know why too. For those of you that do not........

Revelation 3

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Mot, I love the poem.

I will try to explain my faves.

Phil. 4 because it tells us that we are to depend on God and be content no matter what life brings us. If our eyes are truly on him, we can do this.

1Th. 4:11 is similar. We are to take care of our own and not depend on human entities for our support.

P 31 Gives specifics on being a godly woman. It shows that women are not weak as some suppose but we can care for a home, family and a job. Many now try to say the Bible requires women to stay home and raise babies. yes that is important but there are women called to do things besides that.

Ps 121 This one can be personalized to show that God is our help and protector. Many folks think this means physical, but I always feel God is the protector of my soul, my life, not necessarily my body, make sense?

PS 91, similar to 121.

I have many favorites among the scriptures this is just a tiny segment.

PB, it is easy to become complacent I think.

I refuse to stand by and not speak out now. I used to be scared but well God showed me that quiet does not mean silent.

Gal 6:2 Bear ye one anothers burdens and thus fulfill the law of Christ. Too often we try to be the lone ranger, but God gave us brothers and sister to make the journey easier. We are suppose to walk together, encouraging one another, teaching one another, praying for one another.

Isaiah Chapter 6, Verses 1-8 (always reminds me...when I'm not too stubborn or lazy that we're all called to service and we should have Isaiah's attitude):

1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
