In the running for World's Laziest Cat

This is Harry.

In the running for World's Laziest Cat - Countryside Families

He is 5 years old and fat. This picture was taken about 10 months ago in the old house, he is fatter now.

Last evening when the power was out the youngest daughter had my laser pointer and was playing with the cats. Some will chase it all over the room and out into the hallways. Harry, not so much. She got him to go after it one time and he slowly galumphed across the floor about 10 feet. Then he turned around and she put the dot in front of him again and he just flopped over on his side and feebly pawed at it halfheartedly. He was worn out from the romp across the floor. What a lazy cat! His eyes aren't green, that was just the camera causing it. And he isn't as mean as he looks, he's actually fairly sweet. But at times he acts like a crotchety old man and will nip you if you touch his hind quarters. We think he may have arthritis and some days it bothers him.

I had one cat in my life...for 16 of the most miserable years of my life! she sure was lazy, unless it was when she thought it great fun to attack me. soooo...I did what I hate..I had her front paws declawed. she became a biter. (my vet was amazed at how she embraced the art of biting). so..lazy as she was (as in no play...just saved it for war), she found great speed when crossing the room to wrap her legs around mine to bite with great intent. I'll never own another cat. like...ever. but yours looks adorable..you know...from the safe distance behind my computer screen. quite pretty.

This is Winnie. She's only 4 months, so is still in training. But all indications are she will be a viable contender in a few years.

If Harry has arthritis then he doesn't feel like running around! I have arthritis and it hurts to run and move around much. Maybe Harry is smart, not lazy!

This is Murphy. He truly is the world's laziest cat...he won't even get up to move when he's sprawled upside down in the middle of the driveway and hubby is coming straight at him in the truck!

Or maybe Hermione is the world's laziest cat...

Some days he feels pretty spry and will go flying up the cat tree. He had an injury to one hip as a young cat and I think that's what is bothering him some days. He has no problem jumping up on the kitchen counter to look out the window. I would enter Louie in the competition but he would be disqualified because though he lays around 99% of the time, he will run after the pointer. He almost flies through the room. Then he has to take a couple of days off to recuperate.

I agree with you...that hip injury probably led to arthritis. Some days my arthritis is better than others and I am more active. I bet Harry is the same way.

My cats have no injuries...they're just lazy.

This summer in the hot weather my cats had each found a cool spot at night and there might be one on the bed in the morning. In the last few days all 4 have been on the bed, just like in the winter. I think they are predicting an early fall.

I have arthritis in my neck and some days I don't feel too spry myself. Of course I rarely bite anyone.

My cat is so lazy that she lies down to eat. I swear she could sleep on a clothesline.

While my cat still moves fast and is frequently seen darting down the hallway I assure you its just so she can get to the next napping area quicker.

As for her lazyness last night she was laying on my bed as I was watching TV when the urge to to knock over something on the table overwhelmed her. A couple spools of thread became irresistible. She made a great effort to stretch out to touch one and pat it gently until it finally was pushed off the table onto the floor. Having success she ventured for the second spool a bit further from her reach. Getting up was too much for her so she stretched further to reach it. She rolled over onto her back for maximum stretch and then promptly fell off the bed.
