Big R store

We are getting a Big R store in our area. This will be the only around here. I have never been in one. I guess they are similar to Farm & Fleet? Anyone have any experience with them?

They are a farm and ranch store we used to go to one when we lived in Idaho they were great way better then the local one we have now. The inventory seems to vary more by the location and what people need it wasn't very "standard"

It really, really, really depends on the store. Some of them are the best farm stores I've seen. Some of them just cater to horse people with money. They are all over out here in the Rockies and west, I've always lived around one.

When I was involved in farming, I always thought Rochelle could use a good farm store. I know there are Farm King stores a bit further south, and of course Farm and Fleet. My DD works in Rochelle and I'm sure she will patronize it if she likes it.

Isn't Big R an offshoot of Rural King? If so, you're going to LOVE it. Ours here has a free popcorn machine, so my little guys beg to go there. It's a lot like Farm and Fleet, but not as corporate. (I used to work at the DeKalb FNF back in 1993!)

Where at in rochelle are they putting it? I used to live out in Shangri-La, but we're all better now! LOL I remember going into the Sunrise Restaurant and getting the best fried chicken. I think a guy named Elvis owned it at the time.

We won't shop at ours. Several people I know have gotten bad, moldy feed from them and we got dog biscuits from them with bugs in them.
No more.

It's going in the old Wallyworld building on the north side.

Is there a new Wallyworld? I loved going to the theater downtown....and we got our movies from Bungers. I liked that town.

Now I'm hankerin' for some good fried chicken....or a trip up to IL Machine Shed!

We have several within 50 miles of us. The thing I don't like about the closest one, is that they started a policy of no returns on opened bags of feed, no matter what the problem was. Found this out when we tried to return some feed that was really moldy. At that point, I decided to return to the mom and pop store who WILL take back feed and return it to the distributor. Other things they have are pretty good, from ammo to seed, canning jars to oil.

They built a new one on the east side of town on Hwy38. The movie theater is closed and so is Bungers. The whole south and east side is becoming very industrilized now.

I grew up in a town with a local Big R and I loved going in there as a child. Still to this day when I go and visit home I always stop in just to walk down the isles and smell the leather and feed. There is just something about it that is yummy. I plan on moving back home in a couple of years and considered putting in a application to work there.

We have a BigR store here and I love it! They have everything you could want from some people food, to livestock feed, pet supplies, Items to decorate and or repair things in your home, you can buy caners and dehydrators there, a toy section for the kids that has some really interesting things in it. horse stuff, gardening stuff, just about anything you could want its probably there.

We love BigR here where i live and you can take your dog in with you!

We have one here and it is nice and we frequent it very often. However, just watch the prices. There ammo is more expensives then meijer accross the street. Same thing with there ball jars. Also, if you buy a gun they polietly carry it to the front door for you Other then that it is a fun place to shop.

Hi lostspring! We are practically neighbors!

I'm hoping Big R has stuff I need so I don't have to keep running to Sycamore to Farm & Fleet. I did notice online that Big R's feed sacks are only 40 lbs compared to F&F's 50 lbs but if the price is right I'll be saving on gas anyway.

Can't wait to see what all they have there.

I haven't seen any Big R stores around here. But, there's a Rural King out by Terra Haute and I think another over at Martinsville. Over toward Bloomington, at Elletsville, there's a Tractor Supply Store(TSC), and an Orscheln's store. I like the TSC much better than Orscheln's. It has a lot better variety.

Hi Freegal We rarely go that direction unless the wife needs her vacuum cleaner repaired or to Joannes. We usually go to Dixon TSC or Sterling F&F. She can't wait until the new Joannes opens in Sterling. We also like the Wallyworld in Dixon much better the the new one in Rochelle. A whole lot less traffic that direction also.
We are looking forward to the Big R's opening.
