My rude credit card company
For some unknown reason, every time I go to grab a burger from Five Guys, my CC company rejects the transaction at the counter and leaves me scrambling for another form a payment. And then while I am eating, they have an automated system call that says "This is your credit card company, please hold for the next available representative.". They call me while I am eating and put me on hold? And its not a short hold, either. What kind of a crummy system is that?

I think closing a card account is bad for your credit rating but personally I would no longer use that card. I'd also carry cash for burgers.

Every time? After the second time, I'd have another form of payment ready if I insisted on eating somewhere that had a system that wouldn't take my card. I had that problem at a particular gas station. Their machine made company think was fake charge. Just my opinion, but maybe a thought...

We went to a nearly all cash household long ago, with the exception of using a debit card every now and then.
Life is so much easier without plastic.

Using a Debit Card as a Credit Card is cheaper for the business you are purchasing from.
Debit charge for the merchant is somewhere between .35 -.50 + 2% per transaction.

I am just a whiner sometimes. They aren't blocking Five Guys, they just don't think I would ever eat the for some reason and assume my card has been lifted. Its for my own protection, but I think their call back system stinks.

I would use a CC to buy a stick of gum. It is just a form of payment. I am too lazy to track where my cash goes, so I can at least keep tabs on my spending because I reconcile my bill each month.

The way to close a credit card and not have it affect your rating is to get a new card with a different company. Put the old card away and not use it but pay it off. In six months you will have established a blameless record (pay on time, never go over the limit) with your new card so you can then cancel your old card anytime you have paid it off.
We live on a cash basis but use our card (paying it in full every month) to keep our credit rating high.

No its not bad for your credit rating except under certain circumstances. I've closed a number of mine and have an extremely high credit rating.
Thats what the CC companies tell you cause they don't want to lose your interest payments.

I wouldn't use a card when their support people can't even figure out that by now, you DO eat there and pay with a credit card.

I would pay cash at Five Brothers myself. If it has happened a couple of times at the same place, then paying cash would be in order. Besides, talking to the CC company while eating cannot be good for your digestion.

Look at it this way --- your CC company wants you alive so they can have your business for many more years. DH and I ate at Five Guys about two years ago, LOVED it, but I'm STILL working off the fats and carbs in that meal!

It isn't I'm sure. Alexandria, VA company that is trying to spread it everywhere. I stopped in 1 in Fairlawn, OH and didn't order anything though I did eat a peanut or 2 while waiting an inordinate amount of time to order a very expensive burger which I could make for far less at home which would taste better I know. If I need a quick "protein pick me up" I buy a $1 Double cheeseburger at McDonald's when I'm working. I don't have 15 minutes to stand in line wasting my time on such nonsense.

Five Guys is OK. But we have a better burger joint here locally in Twin Falls. They have a small hut outside of Home Depot and we had bacon, mushroom, swiss burgers and jalapeno/cheddar fries today. So good!
We use a debit card and never have any trouble, even at Five Guys during the winter when the good place closes down until summer.

I dont know what Sonny's Real Pit BBQ is, but I doubt very seriously that Five Guys is better than anything that sounds real and made with passion. I go there for my fast food fix. The one out here (which must be too far away from the mothership) can't get fries right. The burgers are decent. Wish I had your Sonny's.

We charge burgers and fries for sure since we get 5% cash back for all of our purchases. We pay the card off in full each month so it is a win/win for us.

Two possible solutions, a. simply don't use the card at that particular place (if you are happy with the Credit card company). I don't use mine at a particular place because usually a week or two later I will have unauthorized charges appear on my statement.
B. Simply change credit card companies.
There is a third suggestion, just simply pay in cash.
Good luck in your decision

I feel sorry for you
I am a 'cash only' person.
You pay someone (aka CC company) a LOT of money in interest
Sorry, if I need it, I'll pay for it.

Credit cards usually do not charge interest if for anywhere from 23-25 days after you make the charge, but to not pay any interest you have to pay it off every month, do NOT carry a balance. I recently signed up for a card with no annual fee, and a balance transfer that has 0% interest for 15 months. We are trying to pay our credit cards off, and the 0% greatly helps.
I think I got away from the original post sorry

Uhm...I pay for it too. Using a CC doesnt make it free. I just pay for it a few weeks later. I haven't paid interest in eons. And often use rewards based cards (eg. discover) to reduce the purchase price of items a percent or so. Oh, and cash leaks my pockets way too easy. As soon as I have a $20 or $10 broken into $5's and $1's, I can kiss it all goodbye and not even know where. The vending machine at work? I am amazed at how I can get by without a candy bar when I don't have a buck. CC and checks are invaluable to me for managing purchases and bad habits. The bill is reconciled and I have to live up to the reality of those extreme silly purchases. On reason that I would advocate using cash is keep big brother's eyes out of my business. I use cash on those occasions.

I pay no interest, because I pay off the balance every month, and it's a cashback rewards card, so the CC company sends me a check for $100 about once a year. What's not to like about that?
Now, if a business wanted to give me a discount for paying in cash, I could be down with that, but it seems they'd just as soon take my card. So ...

The Five Guys in Huntsville is great, usually have to wait in line though as it is normally packed.
DH uses a cc to pay for everything as he gets 5 percent cash back which adds up over a year. Never pay interest either, pays the entire bill off as soon as it arrives.
I use a debit card which is tied to my Mint account, tracks my purchases for me and tells me when I am within 25. dollars of the budgeted amount for the category. Works for me. I only use a cc for internet purchases as I get cash back and protection if anything goes wrong with the seller or the purchase.
CC and debit cards can be a good tool if used properly.
and OP, ditch the cc for Five Guys if they are going to block you from paying each time and switch to a debit card or cash. Some CC never learn, I got a transaction refused at TOYS R US last year while buying a toy for my grandson, called the CC co. and let them know it was me and they released the payment while I was at the store. Some card companies are better than others.
