Too Good To Be True?
Perhaps I' just sceptical, but there is a nice lady offering to give me 2 African Grey Parrots, very tame. I'm hoping everything she is telling me is true, cause I would so love to have them. What do you think? They have to be shipped, no problem. I want them soo bad, and I'm kinds afraid to get my hopes up

Is this someone you know? I would never send someone money to ship me anything unless I knew them personally. How would they ship them? Why is she getting rid of them. This are a few of the many questions I would have.

Grandma always said that if it sounds like it's too good to be true, it probably is.....
If I had these 2 birds coming to my house, I'd quarantine them for at least a month. Have an aviary bird vet check them out. Do you know the vet in the area they're coming from? They're a life time committment and often live a VERY L-O-N-G time. They might be from someone's estate and there isn't a fmaily member wanting them or some such case.....
Be careful too - she can tell you they're very tame, but....who knows!??

I know nothing about birds ... or shipping them as I've only shipped dogs. From that experience I will mention a couple of things. First, with the temperatures as high as they are in many places, you may not be able to get them shipped. The airlines are prohibited to ship live animals/birds once the temperature at specific airports (shipping point and destination) are predicted to get above a certain mark. They may schedule them and then if the predicted temperature at the destination is going to be over the allowable, they will refuse to take them.
Second ... there is a scam going around where someone offers an animal free, but they request you forward them money to pay for the shipping. Don't do this. Insist on picking your own shipping agent and paying that agent/airline directly.
As I say, I haven't shipped puppies via airline for years, but not long ago I posted somewhere that I was looking for a hound of a certain breed to adopt and got two responses who had the 'ideal' dog for me and all they needed was for me to send the money to their 'shipping agent' (probably a blind email/address for them) for transport.

I'm skeptical. Almost sounds like a scam. most people can find homes (especially for free) for those bird no problem locally with no need to ship them far away. Do you know this person well or is this an over the internet thing?

One way to make sure might be to email this person, tell them you have a friend coming to visit that has to go through 'their town' and they will be glad to pick them up and bring them to you.
See what kind of response you get.

I agree, it could be a scam.
Have her ship the birds via Delta Dash, COD. That way you aren't sending her any $$ for the shipping, because you pay Delta directly.
If she asks for $$ for the shipping crate, offer to ship it back to her via USPS after the birds arrive - at your expense - and see how she reacts.

I'm suspicious.
However, the airlines ship animals COD, no problem, or you can pre-pay over the phone with a credit card.
Live birds can come in the mail and the Post Office also ships COD. (Not as safe for the birds as shipping with the airlines)
You can order the shipping crate on-line and have it delivered to the person who is sending you the birds.
Since none of this puts cash into the pocket of a scammer, it should make a con man back out of the deal.
If it is from some sort of organized rescue, it might possibly be legit. The rescues I've worked with will ship all over the country to get an animal into the right situation. However, if this is some ad off of Craigslist, someone advertising out of their own area, then 99.9% chance it is a scam.

Ok--The lady, supposedly in Wisconsin, decided I would provide a wonderful home for her 2 African Greys, and took them to the station to be shipped. This alone worried me, not just that its Saturday, but temps are over 100 in this area(should be hers too).
Now--comes the fun part--the agency has my 2 african greys, ready to fly to the nearest airport, where they will pick them up, and deliver them to my door--BUT--they must have a immediate fee of $200. I'd still go along with this--but the address of the handling company is CAMERROON,INDIA!!
Think maybe this old lady bout bit a scam???

Scam. No birds. No shipment. Legitimate transport would be one of the airlines, not some agent somewhere.

I have a Grey! So, if in the outside chance it's not a scam ( & they sell for 1000 $ +/_ here)
I'd be real cautious of shipping them. They're very sensitive birds & will pluck their feathers out if stressed, and they stress easily (even picking up the vibrations & hostility in a home) Ever seen a denuded African Grey? Not a pretty sight - sorta like a small, live plucked chicken.
If there are two, and they've been raised together, they've probably bonded and would care a fiddle for you - for years!
They're not a "play" bird, but the best talker around. (I am never lonely) Google Alex - the African Grey from the University of Arizona. Another great thing about them, is that they're not screamers!
I could go on & on - I absolutely love my grey - but if you want them, you probabaly already know the good & bad about them.
BTW: unless I could see them in person, get to know them & drive them home myself, I'd pass on this.

Ceresone, was this ad on RollaNet. The pic shows 4 or 5 nice african grays and also included Amazons and some other breed. Alarm bells went off when I read that ad. I hate scammers!
