Strange phone call???

Just had a strange phone call from Capital Management Services (I googled the number after I hung up---couldn't remember who she said she was from!!) Anyway, she asked to speak to Billie (me, of course) and they were looking for "so and so". I'm like, "Who?" "So and so" your tenant. "What tenant--I don't have one" "The tenant at...gives address". I said, "I never owned that property, I was a renter there myself a couple of years ago but I never owned the property". "Oh, I guess there has been a mistake in the paperwork". Yeah, ya think!!!! She hung up real quick.

This was a new one on me. I get calls all the time for the person who used to have our current phone number from collection agencies. But never for a tenant I supposedly have. What will they think of next?

They possibly are "skip tracers" who looked up old utility bills to see who might own the property. You most likely won't hear from them again.

We had a real frustrating time for several years. One other person in KY apparently had the same first and last name as DH ... just the middle initial was different. He's been here 30 years now, same phone and same box number and I guess for 4 or 5 years we had all kinds of bill collectors calling, including the phone company, trying to collect his bills from us. Several of them tried really hard to figure out some way to collect and/or to get the SS from DH to put on the bills (I guess that's what they were doing, anyway). One of the phone companies was the worst ... absolutely insisted we were responsible for this phone bill ... another county even ... and it took months to convince them we'd been here with our phone # and had never lived in that county or had another phone #. Frustrating.

Probably a bill collector who is fishing from public data of some sort.

Well we did have someone who was using our address at various places then skipping out on the bills. I only found out about it though because the police came looking for her.

I would check into it. My mom bought a house on contract once, the lady messed up on the paper work and almost sold my mom every piece of property , including her own house, that she owned. For around 60,000.

She got it fixed, but crazy stuff like that CAN happen!
