Free heritage breed chickens

Yes, Free

We would like to give them away to someone who is interesting in breeding them and/or keeping them in a heritage flock. We don’t want to give them to just anyone (a la Craig’s list), so I thought we'd post here.

Look these up on ALBC if you're interested American Livestock Breeds Conservancy

Barred Hollands: 4 years old in mid-May: 1 rooster and 4 hens
Rooster is great; protective, loves his ladies, etc., but has been raised by us & does not attack us ever. Hens are laying and we had fertile eggs from this group last spring.

Delawares: 4 years old in mid-May: 1 rooster and 4 hens
This rooster is amazing. Again, he's protective, loves his ladies, but has been raised by us & does not attack. You can even pet him. Hens are laying well.

Buff Orpingtons: 3 year old hens that are laying well

All these were purchased as chicks from Sand Hill Preservation Center Sand Hill Preservation Center

They've been raised free-range (penned at night for safety), no vaccinations, Du-Mor 16% pellets from Tractor Supply

If you're interested, please let me know; Go ahead & ask any questions.

They are available for pick up now. We are located near Ellwood City, PA.

We had delawares at one time and loved them dearly. I, too, wish I were closer!

Very tempting. However, if I were to come, I would only be able to take either one or two different kinds - I wouldn't have room for all of them and to keep them seperate.

I am near Brookville, PA so could come down some weekend. But if someone is interested in all of them and able to keep them all seperated, that's fine.

Why are you getting rid of them?

Not the original poster- but my guess would be that since they're over 4 years old they aren't laying much anymore and they've replaced them with younger stock.

No, we're not replacing them. We're getting rid of them because we don't have the time & energy to take care of them right now. I was a homesteading, homeschooling mom for many years. Last summer I went back to work full time. As you can imagine, this has caused some drastic changes in our way of life. The chickens are not the only thing I've had to give up....I no longer sell at the local farmers market & my garden has taken a hit as well. I can't do it all! ha Michael, you are welcome to come pick up any or all of them - THANKS for thinking about it.
