Five years ago a lady I knew sold goats' milk for $5/gallon. Cows' milk cost more. Raw milk sales are not legal here. She somehow tried to circumvent the law by having people bring gallon sized glass bottles.

I have a cow share. I get a gallon a week for $35 a month. It was about the same at all the places I called although this was the only one without a waiting list at the time.

kimmon2five- Can you give me some information on how the share you have works. We want to get a heifer, but we are still debating on the time/cost and what to do with the extra milk. My oldest daughter is married and my middle and younest will both be gone off to college in the fall. I was thinking about doing a share with friends and family to start with, but not sure how it all works or how much to charge. BTW we pay almost $8 a gallon at the local specialty food store here.

Raw milk sales ARE legal in Illinois. It has to be purchased at the farm and you have to bring your own clean container. It is Illegal to ADVERTISE that you sell raw milk. Silly to have a product you can't advertise. Ummm.... not advertising.... just answering a question..... $5/gallon for Raw Jersey Milk.

$4.25 per gallon of milk, and $6 per quart of cream. Best stuff ever.

$6.50 from the farmer, $7.50 from the store if I miss his delivery. But that's in SC where it's legal. In NC I've bought it for $10/gallon, which is what I sell my goat milk for-or did last year. I may increase that this year to $12-haven't decided yet if people will pay that. In NC I sell it for pet consumption only, of course.

I had to pay the cost of my cow share and sign a contract. I also had to buy 4 half gallon jars for the milk. I take the two empty ones when I pick up the two full ones. My pick up day is every Thursday. It is milk from grass fed Jersey cows. I pay $35 a month and get a gallon of milk per week. I think I paid 12 dollars for the 4 jars. It cost $40 one time to purchase the cow share.
Hope this helps.
