Amazon prime????

Anyone have this or know about it?

it seems too good to be true. Free two day shipping on all orders, unlimited streaming of movies and tv shows (like net flix) and a free kindle book to borrow each month. All for $80 a year. That sounds great. That is $40 less then a year of net flix streaming.

For me it is not worth it. Most items have free shipping on orders over $25. I don't think the Prime membership covers 3rd party shipping. We already have Netflix, which I can use on my Thrive. You only get one downloaded book per month. I get unlimited downloads from my library and I have over 1,200 ebooks that I have downloaded since December on my Thrive from the Free Kindle Downloads (link in my signature) so I don't think the $$ is worth it. But it is cheaper than having Netflix for a year so if the streaming compares to Netflix then it might be worth it.

I have watched about a bazillion movies and tv shows. ok, only two or three shows, but ALL the episodes. the free movie selection is a bit limited, but rental prices are not bad.

the free shipping rocks
will definitely renew this year
oh, and household members can use the free/cheaper shipping, too. you just have to list them. they don't get the media, though. as much as my boyfriend and I use Amazon, it's worth it

As for comparing with Netflix it doesn't. Amazon prime does offer a limited selection of free movies and shows, but most require a rental fee from a couple dollars to a few dollars. The free two day shipping is "ok", but we tend to get things more than quick enough with their free shipping.

Have it. Love it. Live rural, so free shipping is a blessing.

Huh? I'm not a prime member, and I get free Kindle book downloads ALL the time. I've downloaded about 50 free Kindle books this week alone. There are THOUSANDS of free Kindle books.

The only difference between free and Prime members is, there are more free books available for Prime members.

I post a lot of the best free Kindle books on Facebook. Here's one of several I posted today: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B005SIU54A

Oh, I just read your post again, Pam6, now I'm confused as to what you were referring to.

I meant you could only get one book on the "Free with Prime" per month. Free Kindle Downloads are completely different. The free with Prime books cost $$ to buy them.

I just looked at some of the movie selection, it is not so bad. Reminds me of when netflix stream first started. i thought netflix streaming was weak when it first started but it has really beefed up over the year. I suspect amazon prime is going to beef up their streaming over the year because they need to stay competative.

I have had a prime membership for 2 years now. I use it all of the time. I hate shopping so I use it for a lot of things I would normally pick up at wal-mart. Printer paper, ink, vitamins, I even get my laundry detergent from there now.
It really pays for itself at Christmas time too, can't stand shopping then either. I don't really use the prime for the instant streaming, we have netflix and I'm just more familiar with that.

We have had it for a year now and just re-upped for a second year.

I used to try and play the free shipping game if you have this or that item, or over this or that amount but found it really didn't work out all that well. I ended up buying things I didn't really need, or not buying things I needed because I could not get the right combo of things to make the free shipping deal work. With Prime I can just buy only the things I need without a bunch of game playing to get the right combo that provides free shipping. Quick and simple. And the older I get the more I like simple.

We have a roku player and can stream movies/tv shows from amazon to our flat panel tv. We will be dropping netflix streaming next month because for us it just can't compete with Amazons offerings, except in the area of HBO mini series. The streaming quality is good and Amazons web interface is among the best in the business, even simple and intuitive enough for grumpy old me to figure out. I like that in addition to the free streaming offerings I can also choose to purchase a recently released film for just few dollars if I see something I really want to watch. Having said that, we just don't watch that much tv/movies but it's nice to have it available so I can watch it on my timetable when desired.

Wife has a Kindle and would get a free book every month under our prime account if we had not screwed up the registration and ended up with the kindle registered under my name (I am the main account holder I guess). I need to change that, but I just bring it up so that you know that only the main person on the prime account gets the free book per month deal.

There are four membership offerings per prime account and each persons membership is separate so their purchasing history, wish list, movie list etc are all there when they sign on. And of course each member makes their own purchases separate from the main account owner. We share our membership with a couple of family members. If you can do this with four people you could get the cost per person down to $20 per year.

I was able to get a free year of prime last year with their Amazon Mom program. I loved it. The free two day shipping was super useful. I've not renewed my subscription because I just don't have the extra cash for it.

Don't you HATE it when you type a long message and then "poof" it's gone. I'm sure it happens to me more since I am on Satellite and it's storming here right now!

Anyways, love it, wouldn't be without it, had it since they first they offered it. We live rurally and the prices can not be beat even if I drive the 30 minutes to a decent store (and waste gas). Plus it is all shipped free in 2 days and overnight is only $3.99 if you really need something (I've shipped a child's bike overnight when I needed it for a birthday for $3.99). I can buy everything from printer ink to larger tools (again, at great prices).

I don't use the streaming because I have a satellite but for me that would be just an extra nice perk.

I have it and use it
It's great for us, plus, my laptop has an HD port, so I can watch movies for free in 50" plasma glory.

Have it and love it. We live very rural (think 45 minutes for toilet paper) so I do the subscribe and save a lot. I do a lot of Christmas shopping as well. Love the movie rental option too because I don't have to drive 20 minutes to rent a movie and then drive to return it. I also wanted to mention the "Cloud Drive" as well. I get a free 5 GB storage drive. Love that.

I just went to Amazon Prime and there was a letter on the site that says they have partnered with the Discovery channel and added on more tv shows. I think we may have to join.
