TP trickery

A reminder to pay attention when shopping.
We usually load up when our items go on sale (like many here), toilet paper being one item. It is usually $4.79 for the 8 roll pack. This week it was $4.99. Okay, it's up 20 cents...everything is going up, why should tp be the exception.
Went in to restock and then I saw it...$4.99 for 6 rolls instaed of $4.79 for 8 rolls!
Used to be coffee and sugar and such where the quantity was watched...now even TP is going that route.

Keep your eyes open.

Matt

Everything is going up. They cut down on the quantity and up on the price. Back in the old days, I could open one can of tuna and make a bunch of sandwiches. Not any more. If I only have one can of tuna on hand, I have to wait until I have a couple more to open also. You have to pay close attention to the quantity these days to realize if it's really a sale or not.

Always something new all the time. I know if I can a pint of tuna it is still a pint but most of the time it never makes it to the jar after it is smoked. No more paper towels on an as needed basis, just used sparingly and in the small sheet roll, no more paper plates. Even toilet paper, 3 sheets per trip....James

I know exactly what you mean! "They" did that to my chips ahoy and my milkey way bar too. What has the world come to? I admit I did not pay much attention for many years as I was not the one tasked with shopping. Buy, boy oh boy, I am shocked and scared at the same time.

Tissues went that way long ago. I have changed brands several times because of that.

Don't know if you've noticed or not but the rolls are also narrower.Used to fill up the space between the roller holder, now there's a good 1 to 1 1/2 in. space.

Finding the best deal on tp drives me crazy. I think it should be sold by the pound!

DH bought the Scot tp and I wanted him to take it back. That's the thinnest stuff I've ever tried to use.

Oh and the Mars candy bars are going to be sold in a reduced size bar so it only has 250 calories. They're saying they don't want to be held responsible for people becoming overweight from eating their snacks. Ya, that works for me because I won't be buying your snacks ever again.

We had a similar problem with our garbage carrier. We got a letter saying that they were able to keep prices the same even though fuel costs were going up. They were counteracting increased fuel and employee costs by going from weekly service to biweekly. When I called them about it and pointed out that they were doubling the charge they insisted they were not. So.... I spoke with the owner telling him that I didn't appreciate their deceit and cancelled their service.

BB, don't give my boys any ideas... They already try to find any excuse to use the woods for liquid recycling. LOL!
And, the trouble is, Scott is the only brand wife likes...I'd use anything, except the pinecones, that is.
Just gotta keep watching all products.
Just picked up a "quart" of automative metalic base 2 stage paint for a project. It was three ounces short. And from a well known firm. When you are talking $175 per quart, it gets ugly quick. Need to check on the gallons. Used to make sure you had a quart left over for down the road touch ups...nowadays, you might be lucky to have a pint.

Packaging has been shrinking for a loooooong time. Coffee used to be 1 lb or 3 lb "cans". The 3 lb is down to, what, 34 oz now? Products sold in jars used to be a qt or 32 oz. Now they are down in the 20's. Ice cream used to be 1/2 gallon. I think Blue Belle is the only one that still is. What is the "jumbo" size roll of paper towels or tp today is about the size they used to be before they shrank them! Pet food used to be 20 lb bags, now they are 17 or so.

I agree, the icecream and coffee have been reduced to a third of original size and are increased a third or more in price. Wash liquid is another decrease in size, but they semi-justify it by saying it's concentrated. Sorry but I don't use eyedroppers.

I wouldn't be surprised if eventually one will need a college degree to find the best price in TP. It could be a new major! I bought 12 pkgs in January when I found them for $3.50 for a 12 pkg double rolls. While I did not feel it was a steal I did think it better than average. I worry what I will do once these are gone. As for paper towel, I wish I had all the money back that I wasted over the years. Paper towel is now only used for draining bacon and such.

I need to find someplace to get newspapers. I've tried several times to do the subscription paper but that's a waste of good money. They can't seem to keep a paper carrier that will actually leave a paper. I like to have old newspapers to use in place of paper towels too. And we use them to roll and start fires in the woodstove. I like to use them when it's wet weather to catch the water drips before they mess up the wood floor. I shred them to use in the bottom of the plastic bucket commode too.

DH buys paper towels but I refuse to use them. What a waste they are. And what's happened to the quality of nose tissues? They need to rename them tissue rippers cause they sure don't hold up under pressure.
