FFA Grounds Whooping Crane Flock and Plane

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories...01-07-03-24-15

A flock of young whooping cranes and the plane that was leading them south was grounded by the FFA because the pilot did not have the correct license.

I understand and agree with the FAA rules that state non-commercial pilots should not be paid to transport passengers due to safety issues. But leading whooping cranes? Seems like the interpretation of the law is way too strict.

One of my favourite movies is "Fly Away Home" which tells the story of a family rehoming Canadian geese. I think I'll watch it this afternoon -- it is really an uplifting story.

As I understand it, the FFA had a problem with the pilot being paid while not being licensed as a commercial pilot. Just the kind of hair splitting bureaucracy you expect from our government. Like the old saying, "no good deed goes unpunished".
