Just What I Wanted . . .

. . . to hang up clothes to dry the week of Christmas.
Because my dryer decided it was time to take a vacation, too.

Hubby has taken it apart, diagnosed the problem, and will fix it sometime this week. Maybe.

But you know what? To some people this would be a terrible tragedy. Me? I almost *enjoy* it. I have two indoor drying racks and a wood stove. Today it's 45 and sunny, so I hung the clothes up outside. I think my husband is kind of surprised at my lack of anxiety about the dryer. He can take his time fixing it, as far as I'm concerned. Yeah, weird.

Now if it was my washer . . . or dishwasher . . . ::shudder::

Kidding. About the washer, not kidding. But the dishwasher. OTOH I would have really missed it yesterday - sure comes in handy when we have company.

Hope everybody got what they wanted for Christmas! I sure did! Aside from the broken dryer that is. I got a delicious meal and a happy, healthy family. There are no greater gifts than that.

I hear ya! My gas dryer "died" this last spring. DH was worried about it, I could care less. Then he was worries to would be too hard to fix, so he avoided looking at it, lol.

Finally he decided in late Oct to stop in at the local appliance/repair place (he didn't understand that I could hang the clothes inside without a problem). We described the problem and told him what dryer we had. Guy says it a solenoid and open a drawer and tossed him one....$12 and we were out the door. Took DH an hour to get it "fixed"....still waiting for the back to get put back on and for him to finish attaching the front, lol.

Plus the wood stove is on our house's lower level, in the family room which generally only gets used by the boy child - so nobody's going to be inconvenienced much by clothing draped everywhere to dry.

Heat from the wood stove is kind of dry. We've got a cast-iron pan that goes on top to humidify the air, but I think wet laundry would work really well for that purpose, too.

And the best part? I FINALLY found a use for that Bowflex! It makes a great drying rack! LOL

I feel your pain. My dryer quit a couple years ago. Thought about replacing it, just haven't got around to it. Now have house plants overwintering in that spot.

OTOH, there's a good chance all our clothes are going to smell like wood smoke.

Which in my mind is a good thing - maybe my kids might not agree though

DS's GF overloaded ours, now it squeaks. When it dies, it's not being replaced.

Ours died over the summer. We started hanging clothes.... Decided not to fix or replace the dryer, our electric bill dropped by $50 a month!

Haven't had a dryer in 2 years! Everything is either line dried outside or in the basement! I love it and so does my utility bill

My washer quit the week before. Washing clothes and linen for a family of 5 in the tub is very time consuming. I need a better way to wring the laundry. I just can not hand wring all the water out like the spin cycle does so it takes 10x's longer for the stuff to dry.

My washer is fixed for now, did a load yesterday. I haven't had a working dryer in years.
