My son turns 18 today

Twelve days ago, my youngest turned 16. Today, it's is big brother's turn.

My amazing son was born a month premature on November 21, 1993. He was strong and healthy, and let loose with a very indignant shout the moment he was born. He has thrived, is both highly intelligent, and a very busy kid, and has made me proud every moment of his life.

My husband and I had intended to fill our house with children, but fate had other ideas. Our two boys were all we were blessed with, but it would seem that someone decided to give them both bigger-than-life personalities to make up for the lack of bodies in our home.

My son is 18 today. He can legally drink, drive, vote and join the military without my consent. He can apply for a credit card, he can sign for a loan, and he can get married -- all without my involvement. He's now an adult, but I often look at him and still see the saggy-diapered little boy he was.

I'm bursting with pride. He's no longer a child, but he'll always be my baby boy. His birthday has granted him adulthood, but it has given me an understanding of my mother I never had until this moment. I am very, very blessed.

Bittersweet, isn't it?

Congrats, Mama, on raising a boy into a strong man.

A child who has parents bursting with pride for him or her...has everything. Good work.

Your son is exactly a week younger than my daughter, who is my eldest and born three weeks early. Like you we also wanted several children, but wound up with only two.

It's been a whole week and I still can't believe I'm the mother of an adult. I, too, look at her and see the tiny baby she was, the curly-haired toddler, the little girl who liked to wear skirts so she could spin around and watch them twirl.

Sigh, it's bittersweet.

Congratulations to him!

Tracy, you have got hard working respectful young men there that would make any parent proud!

I still have a few months till I am where you are, but mine has already flown the nest for college.

Where does time go?

Yep they are always our baby boys. Mine is 27 and if I call him at work he answers all professional and all saying Hello this is Christopher J____ then the fancy department title of the east coast branch of the Company he works for. Me? I say "HI Chrissie Poo" He stopped answering my calls on speaker phone now.
