Blockbuster for movie rentals?

used to have Netflix, and we loved getting our movie for Friday nights. then they raised our fee from $8.99 to $17.00. I cancelled. I know they offer the inexpensive price for streaming, but I don't have that kind of service. we're lucky we have a dvd player. LOL! so...anybody use Blockbuster? and what are their monthly (least expensive, as we watch one movie a week at most only in winter) fees? I tried going to their site, and maybe it was my computer, but couldn't get on today. thanks! (we don't have a Redbox or anything around here)

I don't use Blockbuster, but I saw something a few days ago about how they're raising their rates now too. Sorry I don't remember any details.

I lowered my Netflix from the the largest plan down to just streaming (thank goodness I still have that, though the selection is not all that great. I decided to give it to January to improve, like they said...yeah right...so I'll probably be cancelling altogether then). Other than that, I watch lots of stuff online, regular TV shows, videos on YouTube, etc. I also buy some DVDs, but I refuse for pay more than $10 for one, lol, so they're mostly old stuff.

They doubled it cause they now charge separately for streaming and mail dvds. If you JUST want mail dvd, its like $8 or such plus local tax and if you JUST want streaming its same. Its when they think you want BOTH that your price doubled. So you need to change your plan to JUST mail dvd if thats what you want. Sounds you, like me, have dialup and cant stream anything anyway.

I wanted to keep my mail dvd version Netflix, but the post office decided to move everybody's mailbox to end of road and at most I dont want to drive down there more than once a week, preferably once a month.

HermitJohn..Netflix decided not to seperate streaming from dvds. so..the higher price remains. I can't justify a couple movies a month for the $17. a month, and can't get the streaming due to my pokey dial-up. they decided NOT to seperate them, so it's still the same bill that I refuse to pay. oh well.

Not sure if it will happen in the US like it has here..... but Blockbuster Canada has gone under! We have no options for movie rentals. Rogers is going too. There is just the little privately owned shops that are renting. We have not rented for years. The only option in my area is the getting video on demand through the cable company.

All of my local Blockbusters have gone belly up around here. I prefer RedBox, $1 a night, only I tend to forget to return them.

Blockbuster has a $5/mo plan for two movies per month. Be warned that their older movies and shows are dwindling fast, and I expect them to close up shop within a year or two. Double check on Netflix pricing. I think there is still a plan lower than what you are being charged.

If you don't mind lectures as part of your entertainment, follow the instructions in my recent blog post and make DVDs of the TED lectures. There is some awesome stuff there, and it is in creative commons copyright, meaning you can download and copy for free.

Ok, instead of canceling, I put my account on hold for 3 months incase a miracle happens in way of mailbox fiasco. I just went into my Netflix account and here are choices I have. There are of course more choices if you want more dvds out at a time. But this (screen shot I took) still shows that you can get only dvds by mail for $8 plus tax if you choose.

Don't forget Redbox is also raising rates.
Starting Monday they will go up by 20% to $1.20 for regular DVD ones. Staying at $1.50 for Bluray. and games going to 2 bucks.

We don't watch or own many movies, but we have found if we keep our eyes and ears open we get enough movies to trade on SwapaDVD to keep our favorites and a new one or two around.

I do blockbuster & have done Netflix in the past. Blockbuster you can exchange in the store, dh is close to a store when he is @ work. I mail most DVDs but the option to exchange in the store is nice. They also have video games-- good deal for the kids

I have been watching a good series from blockbuster this wk. people, places & plants. Lots of good tidbits for gardeners.

Overall-- same as Netflix with the added perks of video games & in store exchange.
