Custom Photo Jigsaw Puzzles

Have any of you used the services of Walgreen's or Walmart and purchased one of their custom photo jigsaw puzzles?

If so what is your opinion of the finished product, etc.

Have you used any other custom puzzle maker? Opinions or thoughts?

Have you used a jigsaw puzzle kit to make your own? Again, opinions or thoughts?

I think custom puzzles with ancestor or other family photos on them might be a great way to encourage my grandsons to learn about their family since they like puzzles anyway.

Yep!! Made several over the years. I suppose it can be done with a hand "coping saw" but I always used an electric scroll saw. Blow up the picture and use spray adhesive to attach it to a piece of 1/4 inch plywood or I've even done them on 1x12 boards. There are MANY puzzle patters available for free that you can then adhere to the back of the plywood that you simply cut along the lines or you can just "free hand". Get yourself a half sheet of 1/4 inch plywood and practice with some pictures from magazine pages. GREAT fun and my kids LOVED them.

ETA: I used a scroll saw with VERY thin blades, I would think a jig saw would work if you only had a few large pieces but if you are going after a 100-500 piece puzzle I would definitely use a scroll saw.
