Late summer grumpiness

I think a lot of us are suffering from stress. Heat stress, summer stress, back to school stress, etc.

Come on, AUTUMN!

Huggs to all.

For the first time in many years, I am enjoying this season.

No more kids to get ready for school in the rush of keeping up the garden and all the canning I'm doing.

Autumn can wait!

Every extreme season gets tiresome towards the end.
Lordy! Just look how we all get by February/March. hahahahaaa
I am just glad that the massive heat has broken here. It is actually 'summer' now with highs in the 80's. I can finally do all the jobs that need to be done without drowning in my own sweat.
It can stay like this for another 3 months and then Autumn can come.
I still have too much summer work to do without worrying about the fall time work.
Ack... firewood and barn cleaning. I am not ready yet.

Well, we never got the massive heat here that most of the country did (not that I'm complaining, mind you), and I'm really enjoying the 80º temps here now. I'd love to have 2 more months of it so my garden can finally produce something. Besides, I'm still cutting winter's firewood, and I'd like to get a whole lot more of it done before I need to use it! First summer since I've had an air conditioner that I haven't had it in the window by August...at this rate, I won't need it until next year.

Ducking now....

Earlier this week as we finally got a little reprieve from the oppressive heat, the air was actually cool, the sun, warm on my back, a little breeze kicked up, and it assured me fall is on the way!

I am one of the fortunate one that does not get chiggers. Ever.
Neither does my husband or son.
Whew.

Fall is my favorite time of year. The cooler weather, leaves changing, and peaceful on the farm. Spring is my second favorite because I have lots and lots of babies!

We've been on this farm less than a year. I told my mother yesterday that I feel like one of those pioneers from the 1800's, we are absolutely worn down to the bone here. The garden failed. Were our of water. And the heat, the heat makes me feel like dry bones. My skin is so awful! My feet look like I'm 90, I'd be embarrassed to go to the doctor! lol The house is still not finished by a long shot either. I am seriously at a low point.

Last night I went out after dark and built a fire in the firepit. The late summer bugs were making a racket, the night was chilly and smelled like Fall. The Whip-or-Will was calling. It was mist and damp. I am so ready for Fall. And... I realized this too shall pass and I remembered that I really do love it here. I know that right now I am just really tired and at a low point and that in a few weeks it will all seem better.

Just hang in there everybody!!!

Oh my gosh, farm feet. Yes. I am in Memphis for a week taking care of the house and grandson for my younger son, and I treated myself to a pedicure while Cole was at school.

The little lady who did my feet says..... do you garden?

You should have SEEN the icky dead skin she got off my feet. Should have saved it for compost.

Note: Pedicures are not a regular feature of my life. This is the third one in 55 years. She told me not to wait so long for the next one, or she'd be an old lady.

I want frost to come and KILL, I say KILL, those mosquitoes and to get rid of the pollen. I am doped up with allergy pills, steroid nasal spray, eye drops and am still miserable. Fall cannot come fast enough.

I'd take the chiggers if we could have some blackberries to pick in summer. Am tempted by the patches beside the interstate near her but fear the auto emission pollution & the state troopers. Can't even find any kids selling them--I guess that's a thing of the past.

Yes, I am tired of the heat & seeing the garden brown up is always sad to me. BUT we have had a few cooler nights & mornings so relief may come soon.
