Unhappy Gonna be a long and snowy winter...

If the weather lore is right...
  • If the first week in August is unusually warm,
the coming Winter will be snowy and long.
  • For every fog in August,
There will be a snowfall in Winter.

I'm in for a heap o' winter this year. Maybe even worse then last winter which was the worst winter EVER!!!

The first week has been HOT AND HUMID.

And I kid you not, it's been FOGGY every morning of August so far.

We had a really dense fog this morning. I try to follow the Farmers Almanac for winter predictions. Old timers know their weather lore and are usually spot on with the reasoning they use.

Uh oh, we're in big trouble here in the GA hills. :eek
We had a lot of snow last winter, I was kinda hoping for a mild winter, this year.

Oh I hope not! I don't want to add constant foul weather to my too long commute! Hope this bit of weather lore is wrong.

Aug has been cooler, and a bit rainy. We have had fog a couple times.

Does this mean we're in for an ok winter?

I sure hope so. I typically get up late, so I usually miss the fog. "Eh? Fog? Wuzzat?"

Thats a normal winter day here too, thats why I HATE IT. And no matter HOW many layers you wear, that icy -30 wind STILL chills you to the bone and the air freezes in your nose and all that. NO THANKS!!!!!

I'm pricing out different options for my fireplace. Right now we just have a basic fireplace on an outside wall. Most of the heat goes right up the chimney. I'm looking at this hearth heater wood insert.

I have no idea about prices, but I'm going to be contacting some dealers in the next week or so. The good thing is that, after this year, I should have a free source of all the wood I can cut.

I've been looking at snowshoes online already. Pretty excited to not be working on a farm with no working spigots for the animals in the back this year. Trekking to the back of 100 acres with 10 gallons at a time for 200 hundred hogs in three feet of snow got old pretty dang fast!

Judging by the size of our woodpile, it will be cold and snowy.

I'd be interested in what you've found on snowshoes. I have a 26 mile drive from home to work. In winter, if I have a break down, snow shoes might make an easier walk.

I have snowshoes, several pairs. if you will be lugging lots of weight with you, remember to buy a pair rated for a higher weight class. If you just want them for excercise and snow running, that kind of thing you can go with one that is rated for your own weight.
