Dead Bumblebees?

Last year, and now again this year, I've had to quit using my rain gauge, because it fills up with bumblebees, and they die!
I wonder if theres a shape of gauge that could measure rain, but not attract bees? I had 20 dead bumblees this morning--from just overnight.

could you put out a shallow basin of water for them instead? sounds like they are looking for water.

Yes indeed!

And, if you set rocks in the shallow dish for them to stand on while they drink, they might leave your rain gauge alone!!!!!!!!!!!!
