birds

We have an unusual amount of song birds at our feeders this year. There is such a variety also.Watching them makes me feel so spiritual,it's hard to explain but it feels good.Do you have a heavy bird year going on also?I need to get a digital camera so I can share.

It's hard to sleep past sunrise with the little buggers singing their heads off right outside the window. I would close the window but then it would be hot and stuffy in here. I've been up since 6:30 listening to bird song. I hope I don't have to go to work this evening, I'll be too tired to do my job.

I've noticed a lot more songbirds this year too. And a few species we haven't seen before. I love it!

I have a huge load this year.
I'm ambivalent about this.
I know it's because of lawnification and pesticides.
I would love to get a beehive but I know I would be condemning them to death
The chorus starts at four 0'clock for me!
Mockingbird's always first!

I've seen a lot more cardinals and Blue jays than normal. Now if they would just eat the stink bugs I would be happy.

Same here. I wake up most every morning to the birds singing outside my bedroom window. I love it though. I open up my window so my sweet little cat can enjoy them too. In her own way of course.

I'm not picking at you but can you tell me how pesticides cause more songbirds?

We have blue bird and wren houses all over the place and we have up 6 seed feeders, 2 suet feeders and a couple of Hummingbird feeders and we have been so enjoyed them. We go through 2 40 lb bags of bird seed and 1 20 lb bag of black sunflower seeds each week feeding them all so its not cheap but they provide us with so much peasure its worth it to us. We even have a couple of Blue Jays that will peck at the kitchen window if they are out of seed. Next step for us will be a purple martin house and I want to put up some bat houses.

And has anyone else noticed how many hummingbirds there are this year? We sometimes have 10 or 15 buzzing around the feeders, the Honeysuckle, etc and they are very entertaining. I even like the cow birds.

Pesticides and the wasteland called lawn on neighboring land cause more creatures to come to my land.
I'm overloaded with birds- I feed seed all year round. I have some dead trees left up for the woodpeckers and bug-eaters of all types.
It's Birdopolis here!
But I'm an island, and it's a grave worry to me.

Ah, now I understand. I was thinking "but, pesticides KILL the bugs the birds need to eat - which would mean fewer birds".

We have a large woods on our property and lots of other woods near us so we always have lots of songbirds. But I have noticed more this year.
