Why am I getting tired...

I dont know why?....
I am running out of steam I have noticed that the last couple of years I can't keep up with it all and work...BUT I USED TOO!!..
I have a full time job that I've had for 18yrs. I drive an hr to work and back...I live on a farm, I am responsible for all the livestock animals, along with house dogs, house cats, guard dogs, hummingbirds, Robins..etc. I grow a fairly big garden..(which zens me) My dishes are stacked..my carpet needs vaccumed, the table needs dusting...the litter needs changing every night, the laundry needs folding and the floors need sweeping daily...I am a clean freak and my house is looking like a wreak.....But...my water tanks are scrub...the barn is sweeped, the stalls look lovely and my sheep are sheared....and my grandkids love me.

Any suggestions on how to get my energy back?...I am new to growing old.

More magnesium and a Vit B complex. Works wonders for me.

I am in the same boat so I sympathize. More coffee perhaps! My Dad died at a young age and before he passed he told me " no one ever gets to the end of their life and wishes they cleaned more ". I use this to try and let good enough be good enough sometimes. It sounds to me like you have your priorities in good order ~ Vickie

Old age started hitting me hard when I turned 40. You don't say how old you are but I don't think the number has anything to do with feeling tired. Be sure to have all your health checks done on a regular basis. Sometimes it's simple enough to change diet and make a huge difference in how you feel. With me it was some bad genetics that contributed to the lack of strength and endurance. May be time to reevaluate what's needed in the upkeep of your homestead and plan accordingly.

After all of that, who wouldn't be tired!? I'd be tired AND overwhelmed. Come to think of it, I am tired and overwhelmed most of the time. However, if you're seriously concerned and don't just think you may have too much on your plate, you might want to consider having your iron checked. Mine has always been a little low, but lately I've had no energy at all. A routine check at the doctor's office showed that it is now considerably lower, and the doctor now has me on iron supplements. I'm not crazy about the side effects, but after a couple of weeks of taking them, I can tell a difference. Just a thought.

I noticed that I was lethargic. Not depressed, just not motivated. It developed over the last couple of years. When I was in for my annual check up, my bloodwork revealed I was extremely deficient in Vit. D. I live above the 40th parallel, and apparently we only have the opportunity to get enough Vit. D from the sun from May - Sept! EVERY woman that my dr. checked for 3 months was deficient. My level was 10, and the normal range (depending on body type, time of year) was 40 - 150! So after ONE megadose of 50K units (most Vit D3 caps are 1K or 2K units), I felt REMARKABLY better! It was amazing! I also had quadracept tendonitis that developed shortly before that, and 3 days after my first megadose, my healing improved more in 3 days than in the previous month! I am not a supplement or vitamin person... I just try to eat right. I thought the only reason my dr. wanted me to take the vit D was so I would absorb my calcium, and didn't find out about the energy and joint benefits until after I noticed them, so it was a "blind" side-effect.
So, while you're getting your iron level checked, be sure to have them check your vit D as well! I had to take the megapill for once/week for 8 weeks, now I take OTC version. I know that part of my issue is just getting older, but I'm feeling more like my old self again, and it is great! My best to you!

When I felt myself getting tired I went to my doctor.

He said that I was getting old.

I said, "That's no sort of proper medical diagnosis! I want a second opinion!"

So, he told me that I was getting fat, too.

I WAS a clean freak too.... but living out here on a dirt road I learned real quickly not to look at the dust. I dust only once a month. As for vacuuming... I only vacuum once a week. I have 3 indoor LONGHAIRED cats and one in/out dog also long hair. Plus we have donkeys, pigs, chickens and ducks... so there is also the endless pieces of hay and leaves and what have you tracked in by the dog.

After 8 years it still gives me an uneasy feeling when I see clumps of hair... but I ask my DH if it bothers him and being such a sweety he lies and says no. I too tried to feed all the hummingbirds.... gave that up. The only wild birds that eat are the ones that finish off the chicken scratch.

I guess... the best advice I can give is... Stop being a clean/neat freak. You will be amazed at how freeing it is and you will find you have more energy, cause you're not constantly stressing out.

Enjoy life!!

I second campfiregirl to have your Vit D level checked. I am outside all the time in the sun but my numbers were 16. Have a checkup and blood work done, just in case.

You work 8 hours and travel two...take care of all the animals and the garden and the house and you wonder why you are tired...I don't wonder at all....cut out some of the things you are responsible for.

Get used to it... embrace it... coz you cant avoid it!! This loss of energy is only the beginning.. soon the pain will start creeping into the old joints, more naps become necessary but on the bright side as your vision and hearing fails, you wonts see the dust bunnies nor be able to hear what folks are saying about the clutter around your place!

how old are you?

Your schedual sounds a lot like mine only add in a night of 8 hours at hospice per week plus the occasional all nighters at the hospital for emergency cases. I have 45 minute comute each way, excersise and garden and tend house and animals in the mornings, days off I go hiking or something else active. I never watch tv so I don't even have one and I get 4-5 hours of sleep a night....I very rarely feel tired but when I put my head on that pillow at night, I'm out like a light for 4 hours then get up and do it all again. so maybe it's just an age thing???? Most old people I know move pretty slow.

Go to your doctor and get a test for a heart attack EKG. I was doing fine but not able to do what I wanted and in the next year had a heart attack. If that is the case you may have enough time to correct it before it becomes bad.If that is not it you will have the since that you check everything. It doesn't hurt except for removing the stick on patches and it usually doesn't cost that much.

Definitely start taking Vitamin D. The other thing I have to watch is how much carbs I eat -- too many and I'm very tired.

Wouldn't hurt to have the heart check-up, too, but supplementing with a pretty hefty dose of Vit. D3 and limiting carbohydrates will very likely help a lot.

Lots of coffee, vit D and B complex. Eliminate all sugars and refined white stuff from diet.

A Dr appt is needed to check all hormone levels and have a complete panel run on your blood. You are probably peri monopausal and are fighting your own natural body.

And pare down a little! You sound like yu are a Wonder Woman wannnbe.

Choose the things that mean the most to you in the house and do them. Get someone to come in and help with the housework if you can afford it.

For Pete's sake take care of yourself----there is only one of you!

If you haven't already, you probably need to get a checkup. Some of your symptoms may be from the big M if you haven't already been there. I would start taking vit D and fish oil. I know you don't want to hear it but loosing weight will help your energy level and help your hips and knees (I know from experience! ).

Unfortunately, I have found that I just can't do as much as I used to and definately can't do things as quickly as I used to!
