Gas Prices
I just don't get it. Like $3.89 wasn't enough, the price went to $4.15 today. How can anyone justify a jump like that? I can barely afford to drive to the gas station for more fuel. I already canceled plans to go to Manassas for the reenactment in July because of the cost, but I may have to change my mind on some closer ones as well. Oh well, fortunately I do enjoy sitting on my porch a lot.

I don't get it either. The usual excuse is that oil prices have gone up, but this morning I saw on CNN that Exxon/Mobile had a 69 percent increase in PROFIT in the last few days. Guess it's just greed that made gas prices skyrocket.

We have a diesel pickup. Last time we got fuel it was $3.99 a gallon, a week or 10 days ago. Filled it again today when we went to get hay ... now $4.19 a gallon.

We need something like a coalition of people dedicated to lowering our demand. If half the people in the country decided not to drive one day a week, we would lower demand and the price would have to come down.
Price is a function of supply and demand...they control the supply, we should control our demand.

I told dh a couple days ago that if gas gets to be more than $5 a gallon I'd have to quit my job. As it is I haven't driven the car for 3 days.
We're going to do our part to lessen demand, we've got a lot less lawn to mow. We are considering one of those push mowers that run on human power.

I filled the tank of my pickup yesterday for $3.489 per gallon. Works for me when in comparison to what others are paying.

$4.15 here too. Luckily I get $.20 off per gallon at Kroger, so that helps a little, but I definitely think we are going to have to re-evaluate our running around.

I don't know about other people, although when we are out on the highway, seems as if we are seeing fewer vehicles other than morning and evening traffic to and from work.
I do know we are driving less. We're going to the post office one or two days a week (5 miles) rather than 4 or 5 times ... one day a week unless we have to mail something or pick up something at the hardware store.
I'm trying to grocery shop just once every 3 or 4 weeks instead of twice a month (20 miles) again, unless we have to go to town for something else ... and we never go in for just one thing.
We're retired, so aren't commuting to a job ... people that have to drive to work are pretty much between a rock and a hard place here because there aren't big employers locally so unlikely to find people near enough to car pool to the same location.

I only drive once a week...the 18 miles to Kroger. While there I fill up the truck using my Kroger discount card.
Unfortunately, hubby has a 45 minute (one way) commute to and from work. He refuses to stop at Kroger for gas because it's slightly off the interstate (less than a mile) and takes him to long. I keep telling him we'd save a lot of money if he would just retire! He was eligible two and a half years ago.

Oh ya lets blame it on a company that is only between 8% and 10% profit margin.
Lets not get at the root cause which is the Dollar is tanking in value. And Oil Is based on the Dollar.
When the value of a dollar goes down it cost More to buy that same barrel of crude.
And with the unrest in Libya and other places speculators are Speculating the price of crude will go up in the next 6 months, hence the crude price is now over 112 a barrel, couple that with the dollar going down in value, and couple that with the DEBT America is in and low and behold the left CNN is NOT going to report that, But the Debt is directly related to the value of a dollar. But nope lets just blame the oil companies because they made more this year then last year.
Sure they are, the Price of Gas is up, but their Profit Margin still stayed the same.

My dad's idea was if you were going to trade oil you had to take possesion of it to buy it. Rent yourself a tanker and hope the price goes up! Just broke $4 here in WNY. The gov't force GM back to the Volt after they shelved it as a non-starter now they are just proveing to us it was a good idea wheather we like it or not.

I have a diesel and it was something like $4.40 last week when I filled it but I haven't checked to see what it's up to now. At $4.29 it took $100 to fill the tank.

Oil prices are a fraud. They blame it on the middle east and they say they are stock piling and can't afford to make enough. They were making plenty and instead of dropping the prices they stopped making as much and closed refineries and keep raising prices.
There are also tons of people investing in oil who are getting paid. Profit gains do go out to alot of people not just the oil company.
Reducing production and keeping prices high is the game. I am tired of playing.

I feel your pain. Unfortunately, as people keep paying these prices, they will keep charging them.

Well lets see last time prices went up like this the Barrier was around $4.50 a gallon. Before people cut way back and they had the storage tanks so full of gas and oil they could not get anymore in.
So now lets see how high that barrier is now, will it be around $4.50 before enough people quit buying enough gas to make a difference or will it now be 5 or more? Sooner or later the demand will cut back enough to make a huge difference then the price will go back down.
Last time it was IMO a test to see just how far they could Push The American people, now we are being pushed again. Lets hope it stops at that $4.50 level like last time. But some how I sort of doubt it. This time the "Limit" maybe around the 5 dollar a gallon spot.
