My Weekend: Camping & Great Kids

I went camping this weekend. Just me, no kids. It was an adult enrichment weekend for Girl Scout Leaders. I've been either a Leader or Co-Leader for the last 9 years. It was fun, but boy did they wear me out. I went on a hike with them, didn't know it was going to be such a LONG one or such a hilly one! And it rained most of Sat.

I slept in the "Treehouse" unit which was a group of three-sided cabins with a canvas tarp curtain over the 4th. Fri. night was so nice, a little chilly but nice, I left the curtain open, slept on my little metal cot with the peaceful woods all around me. There were only 3 of us sleeping in the whole unit so we had plenty of quiet. The rest of the women slept in lodges. We had to walk farther to get back and forth, but I'm glad I chose to sleep out there! It was lovely, even with the rain.

Then I stayed up till 3 a.m. Saturday night playing dominoes with other leaders in the dining hall. Had to walk that looooong dark path back to my cabin in the dark, alone. Kind of spooky, but hey, I'm tough.

I got up at 7 to drive home this morning and get ready for church. Didn't want to miss it because it was Scout Sunday. My son's in a different Boy Scout troop, but he was serving as Acolyte. Otherwise the whole service was by the boys in the troop our church hosts. One boy, a 9th grader, gave the sermon. He did really well!

What made it extra nice was that this boy is a good friend of my daughter - she has a lot of boys that are just friends with her, mostly from JROTC. So she was really looking forward to hearing his sermon. She also brought along two other friends, one girl and another boy, and sat up front to sort of cheer him on. What a wonderful moment that was -- seeing my daughter and her friends support each other, and in such a wonderful way. It's not something you see often from high school kids, particularly in a religious setting. Brings tears to my eyes now just thinking about it.

Then later my son had his first baseball game of the season. He did *great* and the team won.

God is so good and we are all so blessed. I just had to share!

Oh and yes, in between I had a nap. Couldn't function all day on 4 hours sleep!!
