Who Lives in YOUR Mailbox?

Went to check the mail today and i got quite a surprise when a jumping spider who lives in my mailbox tried to prevent me from getting my netflix out of the mail. Here is hat i posted on FB:

"There was a very angry Jumping Spider, about the size of a nickel, in my mailbox today, it was trying to prevent me from getting my Netflix out of the mailbox! I think thats a felony, so someone should please come and arrest this felon spider who lives in my mailbox, because he gives me the willies."

Now you would have laughed your rear off if you could of heard me out there saying "Eeek! I just want my mail!, get off the Netflix!, Give me my mail!" all this while reaching in the mail box and quickly pulling my hand out over and over trying to grab the mail.

Husband wants to kill it but I've named him Felon and he can live in my mailbox if he wants to.

Have any of you had strange things take up residence in your mailboxes? I've lived here for 4 years and this is my first tenant,, maybe i should charge him rent.

Every spring the mail lady asks us to put a fabric softener sheet in the mail box to discourage wasps and it seems to work.

We had a blue bird build a nest in our paper box one year and raise 4 babies.

That's a cute story. I hope Felon enjoys his home and the the mail deliverer doesn't plop something heavy like a book a top of him. Yikes!

Since we started using a post office box, I have not gone up to the mail box. Who knows what might be in there- the door its bent, and does not close fully. since its been around 5 yearssince I've opened it, might be something interesting!

I get a spider taking up residence in my mail box every summer too. Not sure where 'he' goes in the winter, but he's appeared for the last two years. Usually he stays in the far back, so doesn't seem to bother the mailman at all.

Since he's moved in, I haven't had the ant problem I used to have in there.

We had a road kill possum put in our mail box one time. Better than getting it smashed.

We sometimes get spiders in our mailbox. I don't like it, but they keep the roaches out.

Our driveway is flanked by four stone pillars. There are holes in the top of them where a previous owner had carriage type lights installed. The post with the mailbox in it is home to a mama grackle and her brood. EVERY year, without fail, mama raises a family in there. I have to warn the kids if they go get the mail, as she's known to fly out of the hole when someone opens the mailbox door

I found fire ants in mine once. Needless to say, the mail stayed there that day and the next day , they were all gone. Those little devils can bite something fierce!

Between one day and the next, an entire hoard of little black ants moved into the mailbox with all their kids, eggs and everyone! I guess it wasn't very environmentally respectable, but I sprayed the heck out of them, and they haven't come back.

I painted a pig in the back inside of our mailbox. It's looking straight out at you. I just did this and haven't mounted the mailbox yet or told anyone. We'll see who notices first - postman or kids or wife...

Cheers

At one time or another (but not all at the same time) in my mail box I have found; lizards, ants, spiders, wasps, tree frogs, regular sized roaches, giant roaches and a bird. But the about the scarest thing I have ever found in there was:

Maybe your spider should meet the angry wasp living in the skylight above my bed.

Darn I thought this was going to be another one of those "Who can build and live in the smallest house?" threads.

I have a genie living in my mailbox. I think she is a bit of a prankster though. Every time I throw some mail in the box it disappears and gets replaced with new mail. One day I tried to catch her in the act. Thought I would outsmart her. I put some mail in the box...waited a couple of minutes and then flung the door open thinking I would catch her in the act! Nope...nada...couldn't catch her -- apparently she is way too smart for me. I tried like 10 times. After the 3rd time...I did notice some neighbors snickering. No idea why. Think maybe they have a genie in their box, too?
