Need recommendations ...

We will be purchasing a new television and would appreciate some help in making a choice. We don't want anything over 36" and it needs to be one that sits on a table.

The research I've done so far tells me:

1. There are several types (Crt's still, rear projection or DLp, plasma, Lcd, flourescent or led backlight)

2. Panasonic tops plasma

3. Samsung & Visio top Lcd

4. Lcd is better with computer

5. plasma better for movies (just dim the light)

6. Lcd better with more light in room

In all this research, it is still all quite confusing to me; so any help would be appreciated, especially with regard to "models".

My wife and I bought a Visio 32". Excellent picture...My only complaint is the remote "lags" when you operate it. It will instantly "mute" but changing channel or unmuting or raising volume, it takes like 3 seconds. I know that there are bigger problems in the world, but it does get a little annoying. I think we paid $416 for ours at Target last September. Oh...and it is very light...especially compared to the big Sony we had that weighed close to 200 lbs! Hated moving that thing around!!!

LED uses less electricity, stays cooler and I think has a better picture. Vizio is a good brand, we have 2 of them, but there is nothing wrong with Panasonic or LG either. Oh and Sony is good too

Not sure if they make a .36" LED though. Might be too small. IF so then I would go with a nice LCD it is the next cheapest to run.

We just bought a 46" HD LCD by LG and we love it. You want to get 1080 p 120 hz to avoid lag and to have a good picture quality.

I'm not fond of plasmas. They are just too "hot" with dirty electricity. I like the LCD and the HD. We have both. Our 60" HD is about 4yrs old, but it's heavy. The newer ones are better.

This was a topic on the Kim Komando Show (she talks a lot about electronics & computers) this AM on the radio. Go to her web site where she's got lots of info about flat screens.

www.komando.com It's a really busy, confusing site. Click on "showpicks" & go from there...

What I remember, is that for the best, pick one of the big 3, as they have longer lasting parts, (panasonic, samsung, LG) and it'll cost about $1000.00 for about a 42 inch. She went into much greater detail, but as I'm not buying one I really wasn't listening...

We just bought a sanyo 32" and as an added bonus it has the DVD player built in. A lot less cords, clutter, and only one remote needed. Great picture and reception. No longer need the digital converter either. It's light weight I can move it around by myself without waiting on someone else to do it. $398 well spent as far as I am concerned.

Sanyo DP32670

*Forgot to add we forgot to buy the wall mount so ours is a tabletop right now.

I'm still taking notes.

We have a nice working DVD/VHS player; so that would probably cut some costs for us.

At the moment we're leaning toward a Vizio, Panasomic or Samsung, though we would prefer to stear clear of a plasma TV.

LED TVs seem to be the technology de jour.

We recently purchased this tv http://www.haieramerica.com/en/product/HL22XSL2

It has a beautiful picture and really good sound. I think we paid around $250.

It's channel tuner is night-and-day better than the HDTV converter box we were using before.

DW loves it, so she is happy. I almost never watch TV, but when I do, I'm impressed with the quality.
