Cool story of coincidence
"Some maps give two names to this cove, Paradoe Cove and Mallet's Cove named after a 19th century local fisherman called Mallet who built a two room cottage here, the ruins of which are in the foreground of this view.
The National Trust leaflet "Nare Head and the Dodman" says, "Mallet had married at Veryan, but soon left his wife and pursued his trade as a fisherman from his cottage on the cliffs, returning to Veryan at weekends with his catch. He kept a boat in the inlet beneath his home, hauling it up clear of the waves when not in use. In the 1840's he emigrated to Australia leaving his wife behind. (The cottage was used by others subsequently).
About 120 years later, by an extraordinary coincidence, the Trust's farm tenant for the area, Mr Neville Quinney, picked up two Australian hitch-hikers east of Bristol. One of them was Tina Mallet, the great grand-daughter of fisherman Mallet, returning to Cornwall to visit her roots!"
