New to me discovery!

I had a jar of grated spaghetti cheese (parmesean, kraft ). Its gone, and I dont usually use the stuff in the plastic jar. In the past I have used the empty bottles for a flour shaker, herbs etc. I have enough of those, but as I was walking over to the recycle bin, I had a brain storm.
The cap (flips up, one side holes the other side a large open hole for pouring).
I tried it on a mason jar (regular mouth).
Fits like a glove, like it was made for it.
just thought Id mention it, as I will hang on to the lids as I get them, and recycle the plastic.

Oh wow! Gotta try this.

**Update** Works great! I also had a can of the Great Value brand...works as well. And the parm shakey-lid thing fits on the regular canning jar...could come in handy!

Oh hohoho! Brilliance! (as she mourns for all of the lids that have been recycled away...)

Cool! This made me go try an experiment of my own. I discovered that a 32 oz. Dukes Mayo lid will fit on a regular mouth jar also

Ooooh, you get the gold star for the day!

I like to put the mason jar lids on the mayo jars since my mason jars are half the size of the mayo jar. That way I have a choice in jar size.

I save the plastic mayo, peanut butter, etc., lids for mason jars to use in the pantry for storage - just to add a little color.

There was a time the lids were completely interchangeable. In other words, a regular jar ring and lid would fit mayo jars and could be used for canning. Most now are just a little 'short' in the neck to hold a jar lid - if you can find one that isn't plastic.

I have a few old plastic peanut butter jar lids that work great on the mason jars. The newer ones don't stay on, I mean they fit but will pop off.

Great idea for the parmesean cheese containers with the shaker lids! Never thought to save them for herbs & spices.

They'd probly work for some of those dry Christmas gift mixes folks make up to give away too like hot cocoa, flavored tea mix, etc.

I use something like this for flour, use it to dust my cutting board when rolling out a pie crust, cookie dough, or tortillas. Super handy!

A big thanks for the tip! I keep baking soda in the shower in a cheese jar, shakes out nicely.I do keep it sitting on a towel bar to keep it from getting wet.

Oh My Gosh! That is awsome! I keep all my spices/herbs(bought in bulk) in old blue glass pint jars. This will be perfect!
