Get out the way Ole Man Tucker!

Old Daniel Tucker, fine ole man,
He washed his face in a fryin' pan;
Combed his head with a wagon wheel
And died with a toothache in his heel.

So, get out the way for old Dan Tucker,
He's too late to come for supper.
Supper's over and dinner's cookin',
Old Dan Tucker standin' there lookin'

Been stuck in my head ALL day......you're welcome :smiley-laughing013:

two weeks ago DH and I stopped for breakfast on our way to the big city. Restaurant had on a station playing only Neal Diamond songs.

I've been singing "you don't bring me flowers" off and on since, and I don't even like that song!

Acutally, should be "Old Dan Tucker". I remember various versions but didn't know that there were many others.

That's OK, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald has been running through my head for the last two days (your welcome).

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy.

With a load of iron ore - 26,000 tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early

The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin
As the big freighters go it was bigger than most
With a crew and the Captain well seasoned.

Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ships bell rang
Could it be the North Wind they'd been feeling.

The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the Captain did, too,
T'was the witch of November come stealing.

The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashing
When afternoon came it was freezing rain
In the face of a hurricane West Wind

When supper time came the old cook came on deck
Saying fellows it's too rough to feed ya
At 7PM a main hatchway caved in
He said fellas it's been good to know ya.

The Captain wired in he had water coming in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when his lights went out of sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her.

They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the ruins of her ice water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams,
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.

And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered.

In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral
The church bell chimed, 'til it rang 29 times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they say, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

I hadn't heard Ole Dan tucker before and had to go listen. Its a catchy little tune that sorta reminds me of a limmerick. On the page that came up was a video of what is in my opinion the most obnoxious song ever.

The other link didn't work but this one does.

Actually I love the Wreck Of the Edmond Fitzgerald. The tune gets stuck in my head quite often but I never can remember all the words.

Here ya go, enjoy my 'song of the day' (we call it that because my husband will frequently wake up with a song on his mind. We sleep with the tv on, tuned to HGTV or Food Network, so it isn't something he's hearing in his sleep and remembering. So far, we've had songs from many genres and from multiple decades, lol). This has been my song for a few days and no, I haven't heard it recently.
From a time when a song WAS the chorus and the chorus was the song......

Well its sunday morning
And the sun is shining in my
Eye that is open
And my head is spinning
Was the life of the party
I can't stop grinning
I had too much tequllia last night

Jose Cuervo
You are a friend of mine
I like to drink you with
A little salt and lime
Did I kiss all the cowboys
Did I shoot out the lights
Did I dance on the bar
Did I start any fights

Now wait a minute
Things don't look to familiar
Who is the cowboy whos sleeping beside me
Well he's awful cute
But how'd I get his shirt on
I had too much tequllia last night

Jose Cuervo
You are a friend of mine
I like to drink you with
A little salt and lime
Did I kiss all the cowboys
Did I shoot out the lights
Did I dance on the bar
Did I start any fights

All those little shooters
How I love to drink them down
Come on bartender lets have another round
Well the music is playing
And my spirits are high
Tomorrow might be painful
But tonight we're going to fly

Jose Cuervo
You are a friend of mine
I like to drink you with
A little salt and lime
Everytime we get together
I sure have a good time
You're my friend, you're the best
Mi amigo(Tequllia)

Jose Cuervo
You are a friend of mine
I like to drink you with
A little salt and lime
Did I kiss all the cowboys
Did I shoot out the lights
Did I dance on the bar
Did I start any fights

Jose Cuervo
You are a friend of mine

The last time I danced with Jose Cuervo I got rolled by a hooker and woke up in the Yellowstone county Jail in Billings Montana. No thanks......
