Don't Know How To Handle This

I know what I want to do.I'm wanting to take a Boat back to my Sons tell him he knew it wasn't running I don't have the money to fix it and want it out of my way.

What happen is I had this Boat up for sale.I had just got through having the Carburetors fixed, knew the problem and told my Son.Well my Son said he wanted to Buy it but would have to make Payments.I said fine.

Well he was paying regular then got to where he owed $1,500,wasn't paying. Then he talks with my wife asking if I wanted to take the Boat back and just let him use it when he wanted? My wife says you are not getting the money so you might as well.

Well I go get it.It seems he had let someone else use it had had messed up a bunch of stuff on it but with some time I could get it fixed.Took it and put it in the Barn, takes up half of it.

Today I got ready to start it,looked in the Box there is Carburetor Cleaner in there I knew before I started the Boat the trouble but I did anyway.Yelp Carburetors need to be worked on again. Not a cheap fix and I don't have the money.

The way it is I can't sell it,I can't fix it and this is one reason I sold it in the first place.

Sell it "as is"

Your son already paid you for most of it, so if you can get $1500 you come out OK

Sell as is and move on. Remember the two happiest moments of boat ownership are the day you buy it and the day you sell it.

Have your SON sell it as is to settle the debt with you.

If he sells it for more than $1500 he can pay you back and keep what's left.

If less, well, at least he'll be a lot closer to settling the debt.

If I were making payments on a car and wrecked it, the bank would not just say "oh, well, the car is broken, the payments are done."

Of course, I do value family more than money... so I'd actually say let your son sell it for what he can get and then agree that will make it even (even if it's less than $1500). But having your son do it instead of you puts the responsibility back where it belongs - on your son.

Well yea I thought of this but the way my Son got it back to me is its both our Boat so I'm tied into not selling it.I'm thinking telling him I was all for this but I didn't know at the time it wasn't running.

Either way he is going to be mad but hey I'm mad don't I have a right to be?

What for? No, really, not a snarky question. What would your son be mad about?

Unless it's at himself for breaking it?
