Wish they had a homesteader cruise

I was thinking today I would enjoy (I think) going on a cruise. I have a hard time just laying around doing nothing and started thinking wouldn't it be nice to have a cruise where you get to go some place nice during the winter (when we all have down time)...be able to hit the beaches in the Bahamas and then get back on the ship to homesteading classes of some sort....kind of the best of both worlds...relaxing and yet learning something. Just saying........

If I ever run across a few spare million $$$, I want to buy a barge and do this: http://www.hydroponicsonline.com/blog/the-science-barge

Only I would add chickens and goats.

Then I would cruise it around in the oceans.

I could take my homesteading friends from here at HT on cruises.

Did you say 'down time' in the winter? LOL

Winter is when we are breaking ice, hauling water, feeding hay, having lambs born, walking in snow 4 feet deep. Checking on the animals in the dark. Getting fuel for the fire. Canning venison and wild game caught. Catching up on knitting, quilting.

Down time. Nice idea though.

Wife and I will be flying to San Juan end of January to leave for a cruise so I would be glad to get this started. My favorite part of traveling to tropical climates is to visit farms and learn about their agricultural practices. Actually, that is not true, my favorite part is beach and margarita's !!

OLF, I agree. "Down time", interesting concept. I'm busy chopping wood, feeding the fire, doing the heavy cooking I can't bear in the summer, planning gardens, ordering plants and seeds, planting seeds that need a cold period, preparing the garden for spring planting, shoveling snow, and cleaning house.

treasureacres, will you be visiting Barbados? We took a bus tour and went through the sugar cane plantations. They were neat.

Oh, I forgot about ogling the seed catalogs for hrs on end, consulting my garden diary, planning my garden, mapping it out and having it ready for Spring to arrive!

Now, shoveling snow, I could have done with forgetting. LOL

We also collect maple sap durring Jan-March (depending on temps) and reduce it down to maple syrup.

You forgot worrying about the water freezing up too....

But I am encouraging my mom to go on a cruise for me! I think it's a great idea in general...maybe we can just leave off the cruise part and have some homesteading classes.....? Maybe online so we can all stay at home - video classes?

Oh, man, those animals would be fending for themselves, or coming with me. This would be a FUN idea. I haven't had a real vacation in over 6 years.

Hmmm....new concept. A cruise where we all bring our animals! Or is that new? Wasn't it down long ago? Noah's Ark!

No Barbados but four other stops.

OK, so we have a huge fence building party at my house, then I will wave to everyone from the dock LOL

The meds help some, they allow me to be green and up right rather than green and in a fetal position.

They do cruises like that for other things. My FIL has been requested many time to go and do one for carving (not sure which cruise line...they wanted him to teach on one that went to the Mediterranean once). He did it once, but since my MIL passed away he just doesn't want to go on another cruise. He still teaches at his shop, though.
