Do your kids ever surprise you?

By taking up something totally unexpected?

I have a confession to make - I totally DETEST what we call football and you guys would call soccer. I cannot stand the game! Mainly because of the conduct of the large majority of overpaid prima donnas they call football stars! But football is one of my real pet hates. To the extent that, had DD been a boy, I would have sat him in his pushchair in front of the tv, and every time the football came on stuck a pin in him. By the time he could talk he would have had such an aversion to the game he would never have uttered the word. This plan had a flaw - I had a girl and, as a result, didn't think my precautions would be necessary!

What has my DD decided to take up? Yep, football!!!!!! AAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHHHHH

In all fairness, I do have the right of veto, and I have allowed it. Mostly because I don't think they do enough proper PE at school, so I have allowed her to do it as a real "run around get your heart rate up" type of activity. But FOOTBALL - if anyone had ever told me I would now be driving my DD to football and seriously considering the prospect of buying shin pads and football boots!!! UGH

Do other people's kids do this to them ?

Oh well - gotta go with the flow

So you don't support follow any football team? Arenal? Manchester United and of course, the best, Liverpool?

I have to say, that Your daughter sounds wonderful! My eldest played at that age too and had a blast.

I like watching men play football (soccer). Um....yep. I do. But Rugby is much better.

As far as just athletics and exercise so, I think Soccer/football is the best sport out there for kids to be involved in. Baseball-they hardly ever even run. American-style football - injuries.....but soccer....they run and run and run! I love it.

I don't like watching it though, but I would love for my kid to play!

Our Little Farm - no, I have never supported any team - just not my thing I guess I quite like watching rugby though

Fellini - thank you for you kind support LOL

dragonjaze - and therein lies half th eproblem. She does (or would if I would let her) everything. She does KFA which is a sort of cross between cheer and dance, she swims well and would probably make a sport of it but that is all outdoors so only for a couple of months a year, she sails but again that is only for the summer, she rides REALLY well (but mostly she does that because I do), plays the trumpet like a little demon, and does Brownies. I had said that no more activites - she wants to do karate and archery, both of which I have done in the past and would love for her to do, but I just feel that there aren't enough hours in the week LOL. But the thing with the football, as Callieslamb says, is just the amount of running around they do. It turns out to be a really good work out

Callieslamb - yes, good physical stuff, just wish she could have chosen something else good and physical

My DD lives and breathes soccer. She has since the age of 3. I have never pushed her to play but it's the only thing she wants to do. Well she was starting kicker and punter on the boys football team last year.

Right now she is playing two years up. It will be a great experience for your DD.

By the way how old is she, my DD may like a pen-pal

mine just turned 10 last weekend. Drop me a PM if you think your DD would like a pen pal. My DD would love it. She wishes she was over your way where soccer is really big.
