Very, very disconcerting!!

I have my old dog, Gilda. She is a cream colored shepherd mix.
She HATES!!!! being in the house. She has her crate on the front porch where she prefers to sleep.
I have to force her with the firmest command possible to come inside when the temp drops into the low teens. She skulks into the house like she is headed for the gallows. Absolute dog misery. Sometimes I even have to drag her in to keep her from freezing into a puck on the porch.

That being said.....
She has been whining at the back door for about an hour. I finally told DH to see if she wanted in :shrug
I mean.. what else could it possibly be. He looked at me like I was crazy.

Same old dog is happily lying under the computer table.
I am scared to death.

Maybe she finally caught on that it isn't so bad inside.

Ghosts..hmmm?
I was thinking more along the lines of earthquake or something..
She is still here.
Too weird.
This dog has not come into the house of her own accord in years and years and years and years...
The only thing different is that I did sell all my rabbits tonight...
but I have sold animals before and we butcher in front of her.. both very often.
Maybe she felt special towards the rabbits. I know we would bust her in the pen (colony rabbits) snuggling the babies...

Any possibility of there being a Coyote or something outside she'd be afraid of?

<lol> She sounds SWEET! Maybe she is missing the rabbits.

I'm hoping it's NOT earthquake. that would be very nasty. But dogs and other animals do get spooked by things we can't see or feel.

Short story about ghosts and dogs:
Deep South Virginia. Friend of mine is babysitting at an old plantation house. 2 BIG labs in the house. Hunting dogs. Kids are in bed. There's noise in the basement..sound of chairs being moved, feet moving. The dogs are barking like mad at the basement door. (there's no outside to basement door ). The dogs are sent into the basement..they run down the stairs barking, hackles raised....then she hears loud yelps and whimpering and the dogs race back upstairs, tails tucked between their legs and high-tail it to the bathroom to hide.

My friend very simply closed and locked the door, went upstairs to stay with the kids, and never went back to babysit there again.

Sounds like you're gonna have to buy her another bunny colony. Goodness sakes alive, how could you sell her snuggle buddies?

Wow. Now that's a story. This ol' storyteller loves it. But would not want to experience it, oh no.

She is still here.. but I have to throw her out so I can go to bed.
I don't think she is going to like having to go out..
What world do I live in now!?
Oooh.. Invasion of the Puppy Snatchers! That's it!
She 'looks' like my dog.....
I hope that she is well.... I fear she may be snoozing on the rug because she is um.. well... dying or something. Yipes.
She is the world's best dog...sniff..

We have a ghost in our house. Our Pekingese used to follow it from one room to the next wagging her tail.

On the flip side we once lived in a house with a ghost our cat hated. Before we moved there-and after we moved out-she never paid any attention to the kids. But while we lived there. she wouldn't let them be alone in their room while they played. My then three year old slept in my bed because my one year old would never go to sleep with older brother in there. The cat insisted on sleeping under my one year old's crib. If we tried to close her out she would go nuts trying to dig her way in, growling and spitting at the closed door. And every now and then when the kids were in the living room she would sit outside their open bedroom door and hiss visciously into their room.

Once we moved she went back to acting like the kids didn't exsist and sleeping on my bed like she had done since she was a kitten.

Do you think she might be ill? I would check her for any wounds, check for pink gums, check her all over, ears, mouth, eyes, feet. Will she eat and drink? Check her stool.
