testing for BRCA1 or 2??

Has anyone had these done? Can you share --how it helped you? Did it help you make decisions? OR do you wish you had never had it done..

I have four siblings. One is dead from brst cancer, one is in stage 4, one has just been told she "has it and it is the kind that doesn't respond well to treatment." and one has had another kind of cancer..

I would love to hear from you...even PM me if you would rather... Thanks QB

My mother was tested for it and came up negative. But she has breast cancer, her sister has it, and their mother died of it. They also have a cousin with ovarian cancer and I have 3 or 4 cousins with colon cancer. These cancers are all considered related but apparently not those genes.

So the test results haven't really helped with any decisions. Personally, I have decided that the next time I get sent for a biopsy I will elect to have them both removed and be done with the whole mess!
