Decluttering using craigs list/ebay

My teenage daughters have come up with a way to earn them extra money. They are using their computer skills to sell the stuff cluttering up my garage and closets. My oldest is selling old horse show clothing that I inherited from my late sister-in-law. The clothes have been sitting in the closet for almost 10 years and it is time to move them on. My daughter has made a few hundred on that project already. The youngest is also jumping in on the action, since I am offering 50% of the proceeds as a reward (probably will just let them have all of the money, but 50% is the carrot I am dangling!). She has listed a treadmill, old saddle, large cherry entertainment center and other small items on craiglist. I can't wait to be free of a lot of the clutter in my life, since my new hobbie of canning has taken on a life of it's own and I am running out of storage space!

I'm doing the same thing but not with too much luck so far (the Craigs List part, not the decluttering part!) I put a few things online, but I'm going to have a little yard sale this Saturday, weather permitting, then advertise online for about a week then donate what's left over.

Probably not the type you need anyway. It is a saddleseat saddle... English with a very flat seat.

Selling

I've been trying to sell a 13 in TV w/Rabbit Ears for $15. Put ads everywhere I can think of; no responses.

I haven't used Craigs List much, since we are too far for it to be practical to the bigger cities, but have used eBay quite a lot. I don't have a lot of "extras" ... lost nearly everything in a fire about the same time as I moved from Montana to KY ... but extra books, etc. particularly, I try to keep to reasonable levels. If they are newer books, I will try listing them on eBay first, if they don't sell, they go on the PaperBackSwap list for awhile ... then every so often I package the ones that are still sitting on the "to go" stack and take them either to Goodwill or the library.

I'm going to do some of my "Montana" clothing and some of DH's New England clothing on eBay early this fall ... we've both got heavy clothing we haven't touched here in KY that someone should get some use out of. Again, plan will be to list it on eBay ... if it doesn't sell it can go to Goodwill.

I sold some of my "big horse" equipment on eBay as well, after I sold down to just the ponies. Didn't have a lot, but there were some things I obviously was never going to use again ... a few halters but more horse sized bits than anything else.

my inspiration was spending a week helping my parents downsize from a 1200 sq ft house+1200 sq ft basement they'd been living in for 33 years into a 900 sq ft apt in a retirement home.

i got rid of some furniture by giving it to my neices. just took a small load of stuff to goodwill today. dumped a few 15 year old books from grad school not too long ago. fortunately i never accumulated too many knic-knacs or furniture or sporting goods. however, keeping files in my filing cabinet longer than i should, and a few extra boxes of books is more than enough to clutter my life, so i'm slowly working it down.
