Unhappy Ouch!!

Did a good one yesterday. Was putting in metal fence posts with neighbor boy helping (first mistake, should have done it alone). Was trying out new post driver (the heavy steel cylinder with side handles)
He was doing the pounding, me holding the post.Yup....had hand too high and he didn't hear me to stop and wham!
Almost lost my thumb.....hit an artery, made a deep laceration and broke thumb in 5 places. So off to Urgent care.....xrays, stitches, tetanus shot, lidocaine injection, RX pain meds and immobilizer! Will lose the nail.Next week to orthopedic practice.
Boy, am I bummed out. Still have garden to plant, more fence to do, hay coming soon, etc, etc. Of course it was the right thumb!............

Ouch! When I hold the post for DH, I ALWAYS make sure my hand is below the pounder. DH always lets it down first so I'll know where to place my hands.

Owwww...that brought tears to my eyes! Did you scream? Did you cuss him? I would have and I'd be making sure he was planting the garden, etc.

Not minimizing your pain and suffering, but I bet that kid is scarred.

Sorry to hear of the mishap. Have you already made the appointment with orthopedic surgeon? I just went through this girlfriend, only it was a pocket knife into the finger while trying to open the back of a watch. The ER doctor who closed the wound suggested the sooner to see the specialist the better. GF had the surgery to repair cut tendon and nerve 2 days later. Your going to be immobilized for a while, that ends up being the worst, trying to do everything with one hand. Good luck to you . . . this too will pass, hang in there.

So sorry to hear that - sounds painful! Also sounds as if you've just checked yourself out of commission for awhile. Perhaps this would be a good year to show down on some of the chores.

Ouch, I hope your feeling better but at least you have an excuse. We are remodeling our farm house and I had to be the Lone Ranger and I used my nifty DeWalt cordless drill to try and screw in some hangers for curtains and I accidentally drilled through the nail of my left middle finger right to the bone. It bled like crazy and has throbbed for 2 days and I know I will lose the nail.

My poor DW almost fainted (and I admit I was a little queezy) but the worst part is I still cant figure out how I did it!! Anyway, my injury isnt near as bad as yours and I hope you heal quickly but when I read your post I thought man I can relate!!!.

Oh, Oh, OH...! I cannot imagine how much that must have hurt....
I cut my finger butchering about a month ago and it is just now able to be naked (sans bandages and it was not your normal finger cut.. can we say filet adn jittering along the bone?)
But it is nothing, nothing compared to what you must have felt.. oh I am so sorry!.

Sorry that happened to you. Reminds me of a joke. There were these two guys hired by the circus to help erect the tents. One fellow wasn't the brightest, and the other one couldn't for the life of him swing a sledge hammer and hit the mark, so then the smarter one says, "Look here. I'm gonna hold this stake, every time I nod my head, you hit it." They buried him the next day.

Oh I'm so sorry!!! That sounds awful. I broke my thumb earlier this spring, and it's finally healed up. Yours was a much worse break than mine.
