My DD is WEIRD - with a capital W

She isn't a particularly fussy kid when it comes to food. Most things she is OK with. But she isn't that keen on minced beef. Likes it in lasagne, but if I make a spaghetti bolognese she will eat the pasta and leave the mince. And won't eat the mince in anything else either.

So at the weekend I made a spaghetti bolognese and she did the usual "eat the pasta leave the rest".

Last night, beccause we were short of time, I used some of the sauce to make tacos. Salad in the bottom, bolognese sauce and then melted cheese on top. She declared that they were "absolutely delicious" and can we have them again.

But it's the SAME sauce - how can you not like it on spaghetti - and then like it in a taco? Sorry - but I just can't figure that one LOL

kids huh

Yes 6E, it's the same thing.

Hoggie, my daughter is just the opposite. She will eat mince in spaghetti, but she doesn't want it on tacos. Then again, since we have so many kids we add the mince and sauce to the spaghetti and mix together before serving, so maybe that's why she doesn't mind it that way.

She doesn't like to eat hamburgers either since she doesn't like the patties.

Must be the texture.

Mine is 5. Her likes and dislikes change so quickly we seldom have warning. FOr the past year, she has greeted the morning with a big glass of OJ. Now she has decided she doesn't like it, or any other juice. She also wants spaghetti and meatballs for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Last week it was hotdogs. She loves lima beans. Go figure a kid, lol! Now hey, I love ketchup and spaghetti sauce, and dislike tomatos!

Wildernessfamily, you hit it on the head. It is all about texture.

I love hamburgers for breakfast. Thank goodness for Steak & Shake drive thru...other hamburger places won't switch from the breakfast grill to the lunch grill until after 11 am....I don't like being told when I can or can't eat a hamburger!

My little brother loves boiled hot dogs, hates 'em grilled. Very weird. They are so better grilled!

My dh doesn't like pudding consistency (too smooth) so I made tapicoa pudding and he didn't like it because it was lumpy. He doesn't like "dry" food but when I make soup he puts crackers in until all liquid is gone. Also, he will like something one time and not the next. And I could go on and on!! I don't worry if I fix something he won't eat. I almost always fix only things he will eat but I hate such a narrow diet so occasionally I fix what I like and he can eat it or fix himself a sandwich.

I remember when I was little, we would have hamburger helper occasionally and I'd pick out all the noodles and eat those and leave the meat.

I tried making tacos out of leftover spaghetti sauce once, and it was *not* good. I think the sweetness of the sauce did not combine well with the way we season taco meat.

My dd is 13 and still is weird about many foods. Some kids are just sensative to diffrent textures and remember taste buds change as you get older about every 7 years. Wish I was going to be around when she is 70 and can't get enough really spicey food.

And the surest way to get a kid to quit eating something is to stock up on a lot of it since they eat so much of it- though this hasn't yet worked for nutella!

None of my kids will eat the good old American classic-pb&j's. If we have the same thing within a couple of weeks they're griping because we have it too often. The only thing they will eat regularly is pizza, but not pepperoni or sausage. It has to be bacon or bbq chicken. They'd rather have bbq for dip than ketchup. It gets to be real fun at feeding time.

When we were growing up we ate what was put on the table. Sorry we didn't have all the good things kids turn up their noses at today. Would I love to have some of those old pinto beans with a slab of fat back that my Mom and Grandmother used to make over their cornbread. We ate beef as long as it lasted after we butchered on. The only things from the store was what we couldn't grow or hunt. Kids don't know what they are missing today. Oh well good to remember. Sam

Same here Sam. Mom fixed what she was going to fix, we weren't consulted. It went on the table, eat it or don't your choice. But, there was nothing else fixed special because someone "didn't like it", same food for anyone. Complaining was not only not an option it wasn't even thought of. It sounds like we were raised on the same kind of food.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm.............nutella. I introduced my kids to it last week. We got two jars at Costco. Both are almost gone now. I just wish it wasn't so much more expensive than peanut butter.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I love pretty much all types of processed tomatoes as long as they have a smooth consistency.
