Do you know where you live

I just wanted to get this information out to all who might not like having their private information out for the world to see.
My friend just informed me that there is a new website called Spokeo.com
On here you can look up someone like in a phone book but the only problem is it also gives out info. like how long you have lived in your home, if you have children and so on. I have deleted our information by going to the bottom of the page to privacy and went from there.
This is just one more thing that gripes my butt about someone giving out info on me without asking first!

I looked at it and the info I found on me, hubby, my kids, inlaws, parents, siblings, etc. was mostly wrong so I didn't mess with it. I guarantee Spokeo.com isn't the only place you can find this info!

Thank you for the link! I cannot believe how much info it had. Some came from The Weather Channel back when it had a message board. Part of the reason I don't share info or I blatantly lie when some message boards or other sign-up things ask for info I don't want to give out.

Funny thing, the other woman in Columbus that shares my name is black, she was listed as being white.

Interesting - about 1/3 correct, but not the rest and it appears to be information thats pre 2002. (and that's wrong too)

Thanks for the heads up. About 25% of the information was correct at best.

That's cool. There are 16 people with my name in my state. But they have me listed at an address from before I was married. And at the moment they don't think I have kids. So. I'm thinking it's not all that reliable because if I don't have kids then I want compensated for watching these two for that last 8yrs.

Now I'm going to see how much me and all the other mes have in common.

That's just one of many, many sites. They glean public records for the info (gas, electricity, taxes, ect.)

Well cool! My house is apparently valued at over $1,000,000 But the neighborhood is "below average". yah, well, this neighborhood WOULD be below average for $1million dollar homes!

I wonder if I could use that as a reference for getting a mortgage? Think of all I could do with all that home equity!

HMMMM, I wonder if I should tell my red headed and very freckled mom that she is now black.

I also live in a below average area with a million dollar home. Hope the tax guy doesn't see that LOL

Do you know where you live?

LOL, I know where we live but that site sure doesn't!!!

Heck there are more threats on the net than sites like that who dont even have the right info!

If you have a website, thats risky if you dont know how to change whois and other domain look up sites.
They record your addy and phone, etc. Its current since they get it from your billing info of your domain.

You dont even have to be wired to be at risk. My DH got a new checking account when the bank was hacked!!! 1k people got new checking accounts and an apology along with some other safe quards incase people found more issues than just the problem the bank caught from the net hack.
Stuff like that is not uncommon these days.
Identity theft is everywhere!!

I can get more information - & correct info at that - simply by googling my name. That Spokeo won't last long with all the wrong info on it.

That is why the Internet isn't safe in lots of ways. Someone is always trying collect peoples personal information so other people out in the world can use it or use your phone number. I'm already having problems with some nuts trying to purchase some cooking stuff in my name an I'm getting billed for it. The company has contacted me to pay the bill an I told them I've never ordered anything from them to stop billing me or we will be going to court.

That is why I don't use my real name on the Internet due to stalkers or troublemakers out here. Too dangerous anymore.

Check out all these sites to make sure names aren't on there.

Glad to see that hubby and I don't exist. My dad doesn't exist but my mom does.

OK, strange.... under my mom my niece is listed as living with her. So does my brother, apparently. Under my maiden name I'm listed as living with my parents as a head of household. My dad is also listed as head of household. So is my mom. Hmm, apparently they live in a 1M+ house without central heat or air in a declining neighborhood.

My parents are in their 40s and so am I. A phone number is listed but it is inaccurate.

My mom is also listed as living at her rental property. Apparently the same family members live in that house.

How do you get information deleted?
