Food, Inc
I haven't seen this BUT heard allot about it. Many PBS stations are going to have it on this Wednesday (9pm in our location).
http://www.pbs.org/pov/foodinc/
Thought some of you might like to see it, too. I already got DH to set up the computer to record it so we can burn a copy to re-watch as our kids get older. They will be in bed by 9.

Ya really as it is nothing but a bunch of the left whinny about things and was produced by the person that did Al Gore's 2006 documentary, An Inconvenient Truth) was the production company,. enough said because of so much of that movie was far out, and off the wall.

i recommend that everyone sees this movie and form their own opinion. no matter which side of the issue you are on, its worth seeing.

I plan on seeing it, mainly so I can see what exactly they say. I know alot of people who are all gung ho on this movie, but from what I've *heard*, it is definitely a slanted viewpoint.
I want to be armed to say "yes, that is a valid point and this particular practice could be changed" as well as "now that point isn't completely true. . . here's how it really works".

I agree with this statement. I just watched the movie on Netflix the other day. I think that it is a valuable film for all to watch. Does it mean that I agreed with EVERY aspect of the movie? Nope. But there was a lot of verifiable information that everyone should be aware of.
Years ago, one of those nighttime tv news shows (Dateline, 20/20, or 60 Minutes) did a piece on the chicken industry. I think it was filmed at a Simmons plant. I remember how shocked my Mom, Dad and I were. Every generation needs a wake up call about the food that is consumed. Otherwise we'll all end up accepting Soylent Green as the food of the future!

That is fine if you are educated enough to separate the truth from the BS, trouble is that many of the people who watch it will swallow it hook line and sinker.

thats the great part about living where we live we dont have to all have the same view point. folks can eat what they want and how they want. it at least give the viewer at starting point. if anyone believes everything they see on tv and in the media they deserve what they get.

Yuppers - watch with discretion. Remember, PBS is a pretty liberal station.
If you're going to save it for your children, it'd be a good movie to help teach them not to believe everything they see and hear. (although there are some good points)

I guess I should have started off by "explaining" my philosophy (I do not feel I have been attacked personally, by they way....just that the idea of the show was attacked). We are strong Christians with a Creationist view of the world. BUT I will still teach my kids evolution (in their teens or so) and about other religions (and I would hope others who believe differently then we do - and I know there are many here- would also allow their kids to see "the other side" when they are old enough, too). If you don't know what the "other side" is saying, how can you defend your side. To be well rounded we need to see both sides of a picture so we can make informed decisions....doesn't mean we have to agree with everything we see or read. Hence that's why we will tape it and pre-view it before my kids see it.
I wasn't trying to stat any debates, just give some information to those that might be interested. As most of us see the value of growing our own food, I assume most of us don't like "big company farms" methods. And I don't think too many people think the test tube food is the best choice on the market, but it is a choice....back to being able to make an informed decision. Again I haven't seen the show, just heard some things about it (none too negative giving me the impression the entire thing is a waste of time). Two of the other boards I am on were very happy to see someone mention it would be on, since I didn't see it mentioned here I thought I'd pass it along.
I did just learn the PBS online will be streaming it online too for a few days, for those without TV that would like to see it. http://www.pbs.org/pov/foodinc/watch.php

you should watch it and make your own decition ,
what i though was very interesting was how the companies who contract to producers to raise thier stock require costly upgrades to there way of doing it that keep the farmer in debt and there for with much less ability to go it on thier own or make free decitions. they might as well be share cropping at that point the bank holds everything they own in lein and the contracts can pull the rug out from them any time. bad buisiness practicase all around similar to the bad buisiness practicaes used in the banking industry that have caused much of our current recession.

I watched it via Netflix. I found it very informative, but I've been headed toward a more "local" diet anyhow.

I've seen it...
I feel that there is not very much slant in it's story.
I knew most of the info shared already.
The one thing that did surprise me that was the statement that all pork processed in the U.S. is done at 2 plants.
The one place that washed it's beef with ammonia to kill the e-coli strain....*shudders*

The thing I found most disturbing in this movie was the complete depth to which Big Ag has infiltrated the governing bodies of agriculture, regardless of which political party has control, and for how long they've been doing it.
However a corporation chooses to run itself should be at the discretion of its management, as long as it abides by the laws laid out for its industry. But the point to which their (former) people make and enforce the laws of the land is downright Orwellian.

I watched it.
I thought it was fairly well done.
If you're curious about something specific, check it out on the web.
I'd be interested in seeing it posted here if everyone could just post facts and not the extra helping of interpretive opinion.
What I liked, is how they showed specific people who are in the government who were former Big Ag Employees.
What I disliked is how conveniently they swept aside how the "organic" label has been hijacked by the FDA.
I thought they were incredibly fair to WalMart.
