GE customer service

I told myself I would post about this here to give either kudos or rotten tomatoes to this company - whichever they deserved. I figure, as consumers, there is strength in numbers and knowledge.

My DS and DD bought a beautiful new microwave for me and DH for Christmas this past year. Our old one, though it still worked, was pitiful. Well, about a week ago, our new microwave would not turn off when the door was closed. It wasn't heating, but the light was on and the turntable spinning.

Having no receipt because it was a gift, I dreaded calling to find out what to do about having it fixed. Of course this happened on a weekend and, when I called, I could only get an automated message about setting up a service call. I decided to wait until the next business day so I could find out how much I would be charged for the service call before making an appointment.

When I was able to speak with a CS representative, she told me that, since it was less than one year old, the repair was free. It did not matter that I had no proof of purchse. She set up an appointment with a local repair shop that I have dealt with before (and liked), and scheduled a time for them to come and fix the appliance. Since I had to run errands into town anyway, I called the repair shop and offered to drop it off. Two days later, my microwave is back home, good as new.

GE gets a big !
